Biography
TENSION
“Take a step back, stay strong, xxxstay grounded, and press on.” Born in a lair that was chaotic to its core, it's a wonder how the ironically-named Tension managed to stay so collected. Just like the rest of her original family, she's an innovative architect by nature, despite being the least fashion-sensible member. Her looks haven't been important to her beyond a subtle piece of jewelry and clean scales. During her adolescence, the rambunctious attitudes of her siblings and the high-demand for smooth production was beginning to drive her mad! She decided it was time to go on her own, and she bid her family goodbye in search of a home of her own. She'd heard the Viridian Labyrinth's residents were known for being the peaceful-type, but Tension had gotten her directions mixed up. Winding up in the Tangled Wood, she looked for a place to start her new life. A young Spiral by the name of Surface hugged her, as he had predicted her arrival. His clan, the Cloakscreen Clan, were in the middle of re-creating their treehouse lair in the giant trees of the Wispwillow Grove, having moved from the Driftwood Drag. When they asked, Tension agreed to help them build. During the evenings, when they were not building, Tension would breath a sigh. Despite having to build, this was more orderly and relaxed than her birthplace had been. She befriended a few of the clan members, learned how to better harness her lightning powers from the token mage, and she even agreed to have her first clutch with Surface in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. The treehouse network was built, but then the place buzzed with work—the clan had just founded a company dedicated to providing the entire Tangled Wood with a bi-weekly newspaper. Tension helped the chef cook meals for hungry orphans and ensure there weren't any kinks in the wiring of the electric lights, but after a week of the business, it was starting to feel like her old home. Surface approached her before she told anyone she was leaving, and her close friends hugged and kissed her goodbye. As she flew across the land, boarding in any lair where she was welcome to stay, she did a lot of thinking. How she could find a permanent home even when things went from quiet to loud. Tension realized that she needed to be the one to create peace in her environment. She helped keep the peace in the Ashfall Waste, but ultimately, many of the residents were too temperamental and work-driven. As she went towards the Windswept Plateau, a storm confused her sense of direction, and she crash-landed by herself on an ice floe. When she was strong enough to fly again, Tension took off, not knowing where she was going. She simply went towards some high mountains that could have been the Plateau. It wasn't; these massive mountains seemed to touch the sky itself. Tension decided to land near one of the wooded areas at the base of one mountain, avoiding the snowy squalls near the tops. She came across some arguing dragons, and when she finally got them to calm down enough, she learned they were members of the Clan of the Frozen Labyrinth. She said, "Let me help diffuse this situation…" And day by day, she started interceding each fight and argument, and giving good advice to the strong-willed clan leaders, who were fearsome warriors. The clan wasn't perfect, and perhaps there was always something to be done, but Tension figured it was time to settle down for the better. Maybe being the peace-bringer was her job—it was certainly better than toiling to build. |
