Riffraff doesn't speak much about where she came from before moving to
Roots' Reaches, but the general consensus is that there is most definitely something more wild about this particular wildclaw. At first, she struggled to find her place within the clan and her role is still kind of unclear. She lived on her own for a long time and contributing to a group simply isn't something Raff has ever had to do before. Upon arrival to Roots' Reaches, Raff bonded quickly and most easily with the clan's other quiet and then-reclusive wildclaw, Supernova. He was a much quieter and more timid dragon when Raff came along but, to keep up with her, he was forced to come out of his shell.
Riffraff is now Supernova's...erm..."Research Assistant". The pair go on
frequent expeditions all over the realm looking for new species of familiar and beastclan. These expeditions are either called "Research Trips", if you ask Nova, or "Hunting Trips" if you ask Raff. Nova approaches the task with care and precision, but Raff is not so limiting of her own actions. Frequently visitors to Roots' Reaches can hear the various sounds of destruction coupled by Nova's shouts of, "Raff, no!" Raff has spent most of her mysterious life fighting and hunting prey and any of Nova's attempts to make her wear protective armor or slow down a little were met with nothing but incredulous looks and laughter. Raff's headlong-into-danger attitude is a constant source of anxiety for Nova, even though he knows she's more than capable of taking care of herself. He just wishes he could make it more clear to her that she doesn't have to anymore.
Raff is a superb hunter and always returns from her and Nova's trips laden
with all kinds of good food, but it's unclear if Nova really benefits from bringing Raff on his trips or if he just takes her along to keep her out of trouble and help feed the clan. Her hunting instincts can lead to trouble with the groups Nova is trying to research or capture. Some newer clan members even doubt that Nova even likes her, but older clan members will tell you that just simply isn't true. They all remembered how quiet and sheltered Nova was in the days before Raff came along and they can tell that he's more than fond of her. Maybe she gets him into a lot of trouble, but he doesn't really mind. He likes the new adventure in his life and he likes having someone he knows will protect him.
...and Raff likes having someone to protect.
