BACKGROUND

Long ago, when dragonkind was new and the deities were just beginning to establish their borders, a new species was born.
The deities liked to experiment, to test their powers of creation. This resulted in some creations that they were not satisfied with, ones that were inevitably tossed aside and replaced. The Icewarden's Gaolers are one example of this, although he kept a few around. After the first Emperor was created, several of the deities were curious. The Lightweaver herself was eager to learn what her creation could do, and others followed her research. With a bit of help, primarily from the Plaguebringer, the Ithaeli were made.
The Ithaeli had two forms. They were massive, draconic creatures of shadows while in their true forms. Their alternate form was that of a white Imperial, although black feathers always remained from their true forms. Ithaeli had the incredible ability to sense emotions, particularly negative ones, as well as pain. They never needed any kind of food, although they could eat it if necessary, because they took those emotions and turned them into energy for themselves.
The Lightweaver was delighted. She thought that the Ithaeli could help dragons, by relieving them of their pain and sorrow. She created several hundred of them, and let them run free throughout Sornieth. However, the Ithaeli were greedy and constantly hungry. They started hunting down dragons and hurting them in order to feed. They flocked to battlefields like crows, and killed any survivors slowly to get the most amount of energy out of them.
The deities were horrified and furious. Lightweaver decided it was her duty to rid the world of her creation, and exterminated every last Ithael.
Many years later, one awoke. Iado had witnessed the genocide of his race, and had hidden before the Lightweaver could find him. Deep beneath the earth, he put himself into a magic-induced coma. He planned to awake once it was over, and continue living unhindered. But he slept much longer than he expected, and was only awoken by an earthquake.
Confused and alone in what was essentially a new world, he decided to lay low. He was afraid that if he showed himself, the Lightweaver would know of his presence. He came across a dragon clan in Wind that welcomed him, believing him to be nothing but an Imperial with an odd mutation. He lived on the outskirts, uncertain of how to interact with dragons beyond hunting them. Each day, he grew hungrier, and he couldn't sustain himself on the meat and pain of small woodland creatures. He silently plotted to kill the clan, deciding that the energy from an entire clan would allow him to escape the deities if they noticed him.
A Pearlcatcher he had helped, Elysse, was unfortunately gifted with a prophetic dream about his plan, days before he was going to enact it. She stopped him, but also defended him against the angry clan. He now lives in the far reaches of the tunnel system under the camp, with only a few dragons around to keep him company.

PERSONALITY+EXTRAS

If one were to describe his personality to a stranger, Iado might seem alarmingly unpredictable. To those who know him well, he is wise and caring in his own way, surprisingly sentimental and thoughtful, and almost shy. However, they also know that he is not a dragon, and sees the world differently, and are sometimes reminded of that in startling and disturbing ways. He is apathetic towards the suffering of others at best, and some would even go so far as to say he enjoys it, although this is primarily due to the fact that he gains food out of it. He only cares about a select few, and would happily dispose of anyone else, not caring about their suffering. His few companions, particularly Elysse, are helping him to understand and see dragons as more than food. He sustains himself on regular food, and no longer hurts in order to eat.
