Shadera
Shade-tainted,
All you people never learn, and your heart gets on my nerves

- - - It wasn't clear how long exactly the Skydancer had been a part of the clan, hidden up in the uppermost reaches of the Cloudscape Crags, but even Gweevlyn could confirm that if not in the formation of the clan, then Innya was there since it was in infancy. Her eyes told of her homeland being far away from the ice and snow that covered the lair, of having crossed the Frigid Floes from the tips of the Crystalspine Reaches in order to make herself at home. The shimmer and shine of her hide reflected the light as it bounced off the snow; its blue tone shone through the icicles and made them glimmer with an unnatural glow.

Be it Arcane curiosity or the need to cope with the emotionally-frigid dragons that surrounded her, Innya was quick to experiment with the native flora and find out how it would help or hinder her ability to read the atmosphere and aura of those around her. Each flower's effect was scribed, each tincture and recipe involving every root meticulously recorded, and she used this knowledge to aid the others in the clan. Infusions were slow work, especially in the cold of their home, but she persevered through the setback and continued her work.

It was Raudiryix who gifted her a cauldron, a small one made of darksteel and crystalline ore mined from her homelands, as well as details regarding the works of the famed Baldwin. "You seem so... so intent on changing things," the Spiral commented when she saw it, darting up to coil around the stalactites before he continued. "I don't get it."

"Of course you wouldn't."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

He never did get his answer.

Days and weeks passed as the Skydancer followed every word and note in the book, adding her own observations to it. The experimentations with creatures began to fascinate her, and she began to ask those who came for healing to bring, at first, bits and pieces of their prey. Bones and feathers and bits of offal that weren't desired by the others around. Then a maned rasa.

She had been pouring a coagulation serum into the pot, watching as the bits congealed into a sticky silver muck that sank to the bottom, when she heard the rustle of feathers. Even with her senses numbed, the other Skydancer's aura shone like aconite through the snow.

"Innya," Quarrae started softly, the grafted and overgrown feathers making a faint sound as they moved against each other. "I'm concerned."

The Arcane being gave little mind to her as she dipped a stick into the liquid, gathering up the remains and setting them into a cracked vase. After a moment of considering her words, the most she could offer in response was, "Don't be."

"You're meddling with things that shouldn't be meddled with. You of all people should know how chaotic these energies can get!" The crackles that covered her glimmered slightly as her tail swung behind her.

"Are you denying me my blood? My heritage?" To say she wasn't bothered by the sudden care and concern of her fellow Skydancer was a lie. Eyes that matched the magenta tones of the other's scars narrowed a bit as she watched her, and she set the stick down.

Quarrae was quick to go to the defensive. "No, I'm not. But I don't want you to end up as I have--"
"Then have some faith in me and leave."

As the Nature dragon began to speak again, Innya was quick to straighten herself. The abrupt motion knocked over the cauldron and spilled its contents on the rocky floor, bringing with it the scent of mildew, petrichor, and the sharpness of the winter's wind. Thankfully, Quarrae was nimble enough to move out of the splash radius, and though Innya had made it so that her own aura was distorted and projected little more than that of the other dragons in the clan, the intent of that action was clear: she was not welcome.

Innya watched her retreat without another word, leaving behind only a sense of spite growing within herself. Did the scarred Skydancer want to see what could be meddled with? Because if that was the case, it could be arranged.

She became so consumed by her research, she didn't even notice the passage of time.

"So," Raudiryix began, one clawed digit pressing on the back of the opal cobra's head while his body twisted and contorted itself in idle activity. "What exactly did you need this for again? There are dragons that pay a fortune for these, asking for one to be sent to the larder seems more like a loss than a gain."

"An experiment." She watched the venom bead and splash into the contents of the cauldron beneath it. Saw the waters turn white and cloudy before clearing up. Excess toxins being neutralized, if her research was anything to go by.

Once the snake was milked, the Spiral dug his claw into its flesh. Certainly someone would enjoy the treat, once it was dried out and cured to better last in the wasteland they called home. "Are you still trying to change yourself? I thought we went over this before."

"You wouldn't get it." A smirk played itself upon her face as she grabbed a beaker of liquid, adding it to her current concoction. "Now, if you don't mind..."

She watched the Spiral leave, not saying a word as his tail dragged down her spine - an intentional move, no doubt. Which meant that all that was left was the work in front of her.

One more jar was opened and its contents added to the mix, the dried and crushed remnants of a mana thief, and she watched as they bonded together at the bottom. With any luck, she'd have created a gem that the hunters could take with them into the Boreal Wood, one that would allow them to tap into the energies stolen by this small insect. If not, well, she at least had something that would gleam and glow.

At first, Innya tried to retrieve the sediment with her stick, but found it wildly ineffective. And so, her second attempt was dunking her hand in to take out the magenta crystal and examine it. She hissed as the mixture found small cuts she didn't realize existed until then, and her expression darkened as what almost seemed to have been a success crumbled in her hand, falling back into the cauldron to regroup itself.

Not only was this a failure, but it mocked her.

Finding herself getting frustrated, she decided that sleep was the best course of action.

Morning came, and the light filtered through the ice into the lair. The snow shimmered and reflected light onto her wings and hide, the facets reflecting a mulberry sheen on the pristine white surface. Her face felt cold and stiff, as did parts of her body, and she opened an eye to see the colors dancing about. In a state of alarm and confusion, she sat up and stretched her wings out, giving her a chance to notice what had happened. She was quick to examine herself, and felt the panic give way to a smug and thrilling sense that she had accomplished something in her work...
