Death is but the beginning, my dear child.

The earliest memory Velrani has is of her past family rejecting her and her Necromancy, calling her abomination and telling her to leave and never return. She was young, hardly an adult, and impressionable. That left a rather big impression, as one could imagine.

Her original interest in Necromancy was passing, just a casual curiosity. She always had a thirst for knowledge, to know what others don't remember. She dabbled in many things before she was drawn back to the art of reanimation, most notably the study of personal energies and how to manipulate them around herself and others. But Necromancy called her back, drew her in, sucked her under.

The Voice came to her when she was practicing, whispering to her in a gentle tone, telling her how to improve, how to do even better. She welcomed the help; one could only learn so much from dusty old tomes. The Voice became her only company beyond that of the dead. It consumed her, to the point where she forgot to eat, forgot to sleep. The Voice would always remind her when she was too weak to do what It wanted, unwilling to part with Its disciple.

Velrani used to be someone else. She doesn't remember her old name, just that it was something light, something joyful. The Voice gave her the name Velrani and she accepted it.

The discovery of Arcane Sunlight was pure coincidence. She was hunting when she stumbled on one of the former clan members foraging. She followed him back to the clan, upon the suggestion of The Voice, and situated herself into the ranks of the peaceful clan.

She waited for months. Her mere presence brought others like her as word traveled of the strange female with the aura of wrongness. Her mate, Velras, was first. Then his apprentice. Then hers. Others came, so many others, their names lost and changed as The Voice demanded,

As her numbers grew, the original clan members dwindled. As they fell, she experimented, bringing some back and binding others. Their souls she captured, twisting them before giving them back to their original owner. Those she didn't bother with bringing back to life had their souls instead absorbed into the necklace of darksteel she wore to power her spellweaving.

Her rise to power was swift, efficient, leaving those against her as nothing but mindless husks or dead.

She feels nothing. Her original curiosity has left her and now all she waits for is the time the Voice releases her.
