Born from a nest of three hatchlings, Soleil came into the world with wide open eyes, full of curiosity. Of her siblings she was always the one to fly the highest, try and hardest, and ask the most questions. Her childhood was happy and carefree, but that was soon to change.

One morning, while helping her mother gather insects to feed the clan, she noticed a sadness in Firerose's eyes. When asked what was the matter, the Skydancer wiped away a tear and whispered; “Oh my little sunspark, if only we could have more time together.”

It was then that Soliel discovered her father's curse, no child of his could ever stay with the clan, instead they must leave to serve the Stormcatcher as soon as they reached maturity. Any that did not would have a terrible calamity befall them. Both of Soliel's siblings accepted their fate, declaring that there was no greater honour than the serve. But as she watched them disappear, Soliel found that she simply did not feel that way.

There was so much to see in the world, so much to experience. She would not allow fear to dictate her life. Kissing her parents goodbye, she set off alone, seeking her own path.

Let the curse come upon me, she thought, I will be ready for it.

She prepared well for her journey. First, she transformed herself into a Skydancer - she longed to remember her mother's image, and she knew that she'd be better prepared to face whatever challenges might lay ahead with a larger, more muscular frame. She changed the pattern of her coat from her natural tiger stripes to a darker, swirling design that would make her harder to detect.
