I entered the world alone. A dryad pitied me as I shivered perplexed and forlorn in my broken egg shell and promised not to leave this tiny new guardian alone. Even when I tumbled, lost, into the treeless land of fire she kept me company despite her paralyzing terror. At the moment when I came face to face with the exploring hatchling Talashee however, the tree spirit hid in fear from the fire dragon. I did not notice in my euphoria from finding another dragon. She brought me to the lair of Amariah, her father, where I was welcomed. The dryad was ashamed of breaking her promise, but insurmountable fear of the fire dragons kept her from revealing herself to them. She comes to me when she can, when I am alone outside the lair. Her promise to me is the only purpose she can find in life, despite her brokenness and inexorable guilt for not keeping it.
I love her, but my greatest treasure is Talashee, without whom I cannot imagine life and but for her I might not have ever found a home.
