Biography
Zoot
Jazz Musician
Jazz Musician
What once was joy, mischievousness, sassy tones, and mischief mixed into one had been boiled down to just grief. After the attack, he couldn't play. He had no heart for music and had to put his instrument up in its case. This seemed to make the other clan members that arrived later fret. Some of them had heard about Zoot, but they were met with sadness and a weak smile. This was Zoot now, after his love had perished. It took a few months, and during those times he was easily angered and tended to lock himself away, the sounds of horrible notes escaping his private room he used for practice. It got to the point that no sound came except for his sobbing, sometimes screaming and beating against the walls. He lost all his magic, all his drive. It took a while for him to get it back, to recover, and once he did, he was back to normal. Or so it seemed... Njord knows the truth, and so does Polaris. While Zoot smiles and jokes around, politely declining any request to play a song for visitors or other clan members, he is in pain. Still, in horrible pain. Then again, so is Njord and Polaris. Witnessing what Zoot did was different... much different. Every night, his sad cries and howls can be heard from his sealed off room. He tried to make it sound proof, but every morning he seems fine again. His smile is the same, his attitude loving and he offers creative insight into problems that need a little flair. His instrument even remains polished, but sometimes, if someone stays with him long enough, he'll start talking about her, his mate. He will talk about her talent, how beautiful she was, how happy he was when she offered a duet with him, how amazing. Everyday, he finds it harder to go on, and while he forces a smile and a laugh, it is so forced some days that the others frown and lose heart. A few times, he has had to be put on watch, being forced to stay with Azurite or someone else, someone that won't fall asleep on him. Zoot assures everyone he is fine, he isn't planning anything, but sometimes not even Polaris believes him. Does he really act that sad? Sure, he loved her but not more than... no, he can't say that. He did. But the fact remained. He knew she wouldn't want him to die early, she would want him to live a full life so he did. Or is trying. Every day is hard without her and sometimes he sees her out of the corner of his eye, or wakes up in the middle of the night, swearing he had heard her music. It is just grief, he knows that. The stages of death, which affect those suffering from the loss of a loved one. But it still hurts. He was born a musician. His love for music enchanting those of his former clan, until he began to travel the world only to eventually settle down. Then he met the love of his life, the amazing musician that captivated him, the one that he thought was better than himself. Yes, Deladap had made the impossible possible: Zoot fell in love, music almost being pushed out of the way. His joy at having her play with him, of traveling and making music with her was his life! It was all he wanted, and then, one day, she went home and he had to leave for just a while, to go see someone about fixing his instrument. The smallest dent drove Zoot crazy, he had to get it fixed and he knew the best repairman. When he was coming back, he saw the beast moving away, blood on their claws. The fear struck him before anything else. Deladap was dead, her limp body over crushed eggs that she had tried to protect. Zoot knew they were his too, his mate and his children were gone. In rage, he charged after the beast, but he couldn't reach him. While he was fast, thanks to his breed, he wasn't a fighter. He always focused on the music, not on fighting. He ran until he couldn't run anymore and let out battle cry, to try and challenge those that killed the only one he loved. But they were gone, out of ear shot. The pain was crippling and Zoot returned to the clan grounds, helping Njord and Polaris bury the dead, Zoot placing Deldap's instrument next to her, covering her in his favorite blanket and performance outfit, before covering her over with earth. It hurt, so much. But he had to keep moving, for the sake of the clan. That was easier said than done. For days Zoot was in so much pain that he slept by Deldap's grave, sobbing for her to come back, cursing the Gods and Goddesses from taking her from him. They never answered, staying quiet. Why would they care about his pain? He was just one dragon. Disaster struck many more clans, but that didn't make the pain easier. It took months for Zoot to recover enough to sleep in his own room, but his crying and sobs could be heard across the whole clan, the new dragons feeling useless in the fact that they couldn't help. Not that Zoot would accept it. It took a long time for him to open up about what he had seen, but words were empty comfort. It would take time, he knew, to get better and to slowly move on but he never wanted another mate. Nothing could replace his love, who had died far too soon. |
