Biography
.:| THE REJECTED |:.
I pad around in dazed circles on the bleached lab tiles, calling out hoarsely for my mother. ”Ma… ma?” I bleat. Where has she- WHAM. Something blunt strikes me hard in the face, and I go flying backwards into the nearest white wall, smearing it with the grime of my blood. My teeth grind together, and I force my eyelids to wrench apart after the force of my impact.
A larger figure is crouching in the corner. I can’t see their face or even the color of their scales, because the lights have been out the whole time, and I haven’t been sane enough to notice it. The delayed message of the crunch of the bones in one of my arms finally reaches my brain, and I yell in distorted anger. The lights are flickering animatedly, and I choke on my tears. I don’t know why I’m crying, but it’s not from pain.
Their thick tail swings back and forth, slowly, and I can see they have a large object clutched in their paws. Must have been what hit me. My head shakes back and forth, and I know I’m frothing at the mouth. "Get away from me," I whisper, slouched in a collapsed heap on the floor. There’s a pool of blood around me, and I know that my scales are no longer pure marble white, as the floor is stained as permanently as my soul. Someone stuck a wrench in my gears, and now they can’t reach into my maw to pull it back out.
My chest is heaving, and my nostrils flare. I jerk upright, almost slipping, at the sight of their eyes flashing. A dull fuchsia, with slitted pupils. Watching me from a tall stature and a shadowed head with wide, piercing antlers. They give a throaty growl, and I bare my teeth in response, snarling viciously.
We’re at a stalemate here. I know that I will not hesitate to murder until every bone is shattered. My armor isn’t on, and my body is free to roam. One move and I will snap. I become aware of blood trickling from my skull and of the puddle between my shoulders. My voracious appetite for death will level your head.
I spit in the direction of their form, and they don’t flinch, their gaze remaining hard set on me. The scars on my back whisper and tingle at the sight of my attacker’s set of glimmering teeth, and I dare not take my eyes off of them. ”Don’t touch me.”
They overtake me in a flash. There was no warning other than the sudden thud of the object they dropped, and being slammed into from all angles. They’re trying to restrain me, to hold me down, but I know that is impossible.
My head rears back, and I unleash an unearthly scream. I wrap my arms around her neck and I yank her closer, and closer and closer - until my breath tickles her nose and my jaws are widening and my teeth could delve into her flesh, and I let them, and I lose myself.
”Mama?” She’s not here. “Where did she go?” Away. “Why did she leave?” …
Why is my mother’s head in my hands?
p a i n
I wake up in a cold sweat, and fumble around myself to feel for my armor. It’s there. I’m chained up, I’m okay. I gingerly feel around my mouth with my tongue, and I don’t taste any new blood. My teeth have dulled from years of starving myself from meat, and that’s the way it should be.
I am a genetically engineered monster. I was rejected from the test program due to my relentless thirst for blood. I am unable to feel pain, but for some reason, every time I have that dream, I swear I know what it damn feels like.
