Biography

Things had gone horribly wrong. So wrong that Nightshade didn't know where to turn or what to do. She had, against everyone's advice, contrary to even Damien's pleading, continued to visit the Hoodoo near the Wyrmwound with Alyson. He had stormed off at their last meeting and returned to Akar, their rift apparently forgiven.

Now, she did not recognize herself. Her circuits melted away to stain. Her strong wings and powerful body contorted into a strange foreign shape. Then the final straw and, hopefully the end of the wild mutagenic changes, she had gone back. Back to a weird youth, a hatchling again. Hopefully she wouldn't revert to an egg or an indiscriminate pulsating mass, but at this point that may be too much to hope for.

Things had been going well, there had been no further changes. Until she made one more trip. One more trip. Even Allison had begged her to remain in the lair, but she insisted. The Wyrmwound was beautiful. It called to her. How could it change her more? She was already so different.

Who could have anticipated the Java Sparrow escaping from the food stores and choosing to fly in the wrong direction? Who could have foreseen that its heart would fail at the sight of the baleful glow? Even more improbable that the splash from its fall would hit her in the eyes.
