Canna was born so long ago and so far away that he can barely recall anything beyond the faintest memories of his birthplace. What he can recall is dark and violent; the fleeting warmth of his siblings beside him before they were taken away, an angry echo of someone’s voice, and a flash of red. Canna gave himself his own name, an image for his own self to be. Blood-red and sweet-smelling. He carries himself with the impermanence of a flower, and never talks above a whisper for fear of what his magic might do. His magic has haunted his steps as long as he can remember, something wild and untamed that lives deep in the heart of his being and cries out for blood at the slightest touch. It taints and twists his soul, casting a crimson shadow over all the places where light should exist. Canna keeps a tight hold over what he can, but his magic is often too unpredictable and volatile for him to relax. The story of how Canna came to Stormshead is long and complicated, and verily soaked in the blood of hundreds of dragons. But the dragons of Stormshead, no strangers to those bearing heavy burdens upon their backs, welcomed the fragile Skydancer into their ranks. Canna initially felt conflicted about his place within the tight-knit clan, and worried about his use, or lack thereof, to the dragons housed within Stormshead, but over the years the enthusiastic and cheerful acceptance that he received has assuaged those fears, even if just a little. When it’s required of him, Canna isn’t afraid to let the monster inside of him take hold of the reins. Those who have seen him lose control for the sake of their clan, so that he can tear into the cores of their enemies and protect those who have become dearest to him, bear a different form of respect. The Canna that emerges when given free reign and an enemy to take care of is light-years away from the soft-spoken, kind-hearted fellow who walks the halls of Stormshead each night he spends awake, but that Canna is no less a member of Stormshead than any other dragon. |
