The Iron Bull is a one-eyed mercenary, a pansexual companion of the Inquisitor's. Before he became known as the Iron Bull, he worked as an agent of the Ben-Hassrath on the Qunari-held island of Seheron. According to him, the island was "a sack of cats". Incursions from Tevinter, marauding Tal-Vashoth, and native rebels fighting both sides made life chaotic. He took down plenty of spies, rebels and deserters, but burned out by 9:40 Dragon. The Ben-Hassrath reassigned him to Orlais, ostensibly as a Tal-Vashoth, to work undercover, where he founded the Bull's Chargers mercenary company. Bull uses his mercenaries to gather information on Orlesian nobles, feeding the intelligence to the Ben-Hassrath. Though he still reports to his old masters, time in Orlais led to something of an identity crisis for him.

He remains in command of the Bull's Chargers, though spends much of his time drinking, lazing about and overindulging - all clear violations of the Qun. Despite his unusually friendly demeanor and lax attitude to his philosophy, Iron Bull still has a loyalty to the Qun which dies hard. He doesn't proselytize, but neither does he apologize for his way of life.

After meeting the Inquisitor at Redcliffe the two were inseparable, the two would fight back to back, no matter the opponent. After finding Iron Bull, the three were incredibly loyal fast friends, of course the three flirted a lot but were very shy in profession of love. For a long while the trio were seen as 'basically married', in Leliana's words. But both Dorian, and the redheaded inquisitor always included Iron Bull in their shenanigans and had shared a passionate love that was equal to only the others of the three. The inquisitor even had to go as far as to kill three separate wyrms to secure their teeth as necklaces. He and bull had thought of the rite and necklaces of the Qunari culture as the best way to meld the unlikely triple of lovers. A Tevinter mage, a Qunari spy mercenary and a Dalish rogue found an odd love between the three. Nonetheless one could easily say they all shared in their open love. Dorian always found a peace in the doting and reassurance from Bull, and the Inquisitor.
