Bizarre Bazaar | Tailor

Gentle Soul

Fascinated by different ways of making fabric, Fairisle has always loved being a tailor. He is skilled in sewing, dying, weaving and many of the other crafts that help produce a finished garment. His favourite by far is knitting, which is what he spends most of his free time doing. One of the oldest dragons in the clan, Fairisle lives a very calm existence when he can. He has seen almost every upset there is to see, and even the Hunger didn't phase him very much compared to the others who lived through it. Many attribute his near perpetual state of zen to the fact that he spends most of his time in a state of mediation while he makes his crafts.

He has knit a scarf for every single member of the clan and every guest to come through. However, most find convenient reasons not to wear them. This doesn't seem to bother him, as he simple says 'Well they'll be cold someday'. He's beloved by the vainer dragons of the clan as he can create nearly anything they decide they want to wear and works closely with Einar to make the skydancer's visions for 'wearable art' come to life.

Despite his normally calm demeanor, there is one thing Fairisle is not calm about and that is Augur. While he was initially only concerned with keeping the headstrong mirror alive once his mother had left the clan's forward team, over the years Fairisle has grown to love him to distraction. While he never says as much, the two spend quite a lot of time together now that Augur is semi retired.

As one of the first hatchlings ever born to the clan, Fairisle was not born into stable city that exists today. Instead, he was a child of a small tight-knit clan that was desperately trying to eke out an existence in the woods under constant threat of the beast clans and natural calamity. An intelligent but non-violent child, Fairilse had very little interest in learning his mother's battle magic. However, he recognized that the clan simply did not have enough bodies to allow him the luxury of being a noncombatant so he studied diligently despite his lack of passion for the subject.

This proved to be a wise decision as Fairisle was not long into his adulthood when his mother became critically injured and was forced to retired from her position as the forward team's healer and support. With no one else to fill her position, Fairisle took the job and proved to every bit as good, if not better, than his mother. He saved the lives of Augur and Sekmet countless times and while he retired at the first opportunity that presented itself, he was forced out of retirement during the Hunger as it was his magic combined with Augur's fighting prowess that allowed a lot of the weaker to escape unharmed. To this day, he still occasionally assists in training lectures on magic and tactics.

Fairisle had children as a duty and little else, and as a result didn't get particularly close to any of them. Even so, some time after the clan had resettled after the Hunger, Fairisle found himself adopting a young imperial named Ainslee. The younger dragon was barely an adult but he was surprisingly skilled with a needle and thread. Thrilled to find a kindred spirit, Fairisle was more than happy to mentor Ainslee on the tailoring techniques he had picked over up over the years. Ainslee was a fast learner but he also admired Fairisle's meditative calm and became convinced Fairisle had discovered some secret to enlightenment.

The two had a massive falling out after Ainslee's resentment of Fairisle's perceived unwillingness to share these secrets bubbled over into a rage. Forced to subdue his student, Fairisle was shaken in a way he had never been before. Violence from a clan member in his right mind was something new and utterly alien to Fairisle. His shop was closed for months before finally reopening as Fairisle came to terms that the days when every member of the clan could trust each other with their safety unquestioningly were over.
