Biography
Regardless of what they believe I'm no one's Herald. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time and now I've got half of Thedas eyeing me as some shining light from a goddess I don't believe in. |
Alain Lavellan He more or less fell into the role. And he didn't get up gracefully. Rather he jumped, a little too fast, and fell over again. He was strong. And smart. Quick on his feet with equally fast wits. But he wasn't too graceful. Inquisitor was a title that was too heavy for him to hold. It was too big, and he feared he'd drop it. And the title Herald of Andraste? That he really wanted to drop. Into the waking sea where it would never be found again. He wasn't even sure he believed in the gods he'd learned of his whole life, and people expected him to believe he was some prophet sent by theirs? Right. He found at least she agreed with him. They shared common ground. "If it's any consolation, I don't believe in her either. Or the Maker, whatever. Too much praise for them thrown about that old place, yet they never helped me a bit," She was vague but he knew what she meant. "They're not real for me at least." And he felt comfort in knowing someone was on the same page as him. Until, of course, she added, "But I have seen people...better thinking it. I mean. I don't believe but they do and it gives them hope right?" Of course she wasn't the first to tell him this. "So like. Maybe just. Drop the title into the Waking Sea. But make sure it's shallow enough for people to fish it out, yeah?" That had him rolling his eyes. But, then he did think. Times were hard. People needed hope. That's what he'd been hearing over and over. If they wanted to believe something that wasn't true, and didn't really hurt anyone (just mildly annoyed him, really) why not let them? But then he thought about how he was their hope. The person who was supposed to, what, fix things? Could he do it? Yeah, of course. Well, maybe. He was smart, analytical, knew how to fight and strategize. But was it fair to put him in this position? If he was honest, he felt forced. He was a bit selfish, he though. He'd wished the Inquisition had found that Champion he'd heard of or that big Hero of Ferelden. People who had already made names of themselves. Someone who'd already triumphed for peoples' hopes, surely it wouldn't be hard to do it again. His thoughts muddled together. Like he had a choice. He wanted to be angry and bitter. But he couldn't be. He felt an obligation. After all, old heroes were tired. And while people were wrong about him as far as the Herald business went, it didn't hurt anyone to believe. If it gave them hope. And he'd fight hard to succeed. After the fact he could deal with the constant cries of "Praise Andraste!" in regards to his...Heraldness, or whatever they called it. He wasn't cocky, but he was sure. The faster things were fixed, the faster he could leave, anyway. (to be edited, i am very tired rn: 3/10) |
