Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a boy.
{"Father! I'm not a hatchling! I'm old enough for you to teach me you know!"}
And he was like many boys. Headstrong. Reckless. Certain he is immortal, despite any evidence to the contrary.
{"What are you talking about Mother, I'll be fine."}
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a war.
{"Oh... oh gods.."}
And there was a great battle, as there often are in wars.
{"Someone! Anyone! Please, I can't stop the bleeding!"}
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a field.
{"No... no no no no no get up!"}
And this field was covered with the bodies of the slain, left unburied by their enemies.
{"Please, please someone... someone help me... please..."}
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a force which could not be beaten.
{"NO! It's can't end like this!"}
A force which could not be defeated, only be driven back for a time.
{"I...I couldn't save them... I couldn't save anyone..."}
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, a very bad thing happened.
{"NO NO NO I WON'T LET IT END LIKE THIS"}
The sort of thing which does not really stop happening. The sort of thing which might have good intentions but horrible repercussions.
{"What? No, I did it right! I did it like the book said!"}
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a boy.
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a war.
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, there was a force which could not be beaten.
Once upon a time, a long long time ago, a very bad thing happened.
Once upon a time, not very long ago at all, a young dragon woke up and he was not himself.
He was not himself at all.
He was someone completely different.
He was certain he was immortal, and he remembers a battle and a field and a force which could not be defeated, only driven back for a time. He did a very bad thing, but that bad thing got him here.
And he will see that force driven back again.
One way or another.
