Nereis ( 네레이스 )

그리스 신화에 등장하는 님프들.
님프보다는 여신에 가까운 존재로 영원한 생명을 지니고 있었다.
아름답고 매력적인 여성의 모습을 하고 있으며, 신이나 영웅과 결혼한 자도 많다.
바다를 자유자재로 조절하는 큰 힘은 갖고 있지 않지만, 바다에서 위험한 상황에 처해 있는 영웅을 구해주거나 적에게서 도망치려고 하는 자들을 바다 속에 감춰주기도 했다.
포도주의 신 디오니소스와 관계가 깊어서 그의 밀교를 인간들에게 전달해주는 자가 네레이스들이라고 한다.
