Biography
Lucius
Lucius stood over his most recently defeated opponent. He felt no joy or pride that being a victor used to bring him. He enjoyed the fight, but having to fight for the matriarch on her command was exhausting. He knew that she would never let him leave; his clan's matriarch ruled with an iron fist and never allowed anyone to leave. Knowing that he couldn't stand living there for much longer, he had begun to plan his escape days prior to this victory. A victory meant he would stand guard for the clan tonight, which would give him the chance he needed to flee. He decided to head south from the Tangled Wood. It would give him a few different Flight territories to choose from. He was both nervous and excited, which left his stomach slightly knotted. He was confident that if he was caught by one or two of his clanmates, he could fend them off. If there was more of them though, he would probably be dragged back to his very unhappy matriarch. The sun began to crest the horizon as he took flight. Lucius was the only dragon left on guard duty at that time, so he took his chance. He flew faster than he ever had before. He quickly passed by the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He had thought about living there with Water dragons, but now he felt it was much too close to his old home, so he kept flying. He could see the borders of the Windswept Plateau and the Ashfall Waste. Still afraid of being found, he veered towards the Ashfall Waste. He hoped the smoke from the Fire Flight's land would help cover his trail. Even though he knew he was probably far enough away, he still felt chased. Lucius kept flying. He decided that the Southern Icefield would be his new home. As he drew closer, Lucius could feel the temperature starting to plummet. Soon he was over the island. He cautiously landed for the first time since he had taken off that morning. His wings were very tired, so the rest was welcome. Looking around, Lucius was impressed at how massive the Icefield was. He was exhausted and dehydrated, but now he was cold and exposed to the elements. He needed to find somewhere to stay, and soon. He began wandering around, looking for any signs of other dragons. Occasionally he found old tracks in the snow, but never another living, breathing dragon. He started to become dizzy. It had been a long time since his last meal, so his health was beginning to wane. He found an outcropping that was sheltered from the cold wind, so he stopped under it. He had only planned to stay there for a minute to catch his breath, but he drifted off into an exhausted sleep. Woozy, Lucius woke not knowing how long he had been unconscious. Standing over him was a Skydancer. "Do you need help?" the concerned Skydancer asked him. Lucius, still a bit out of it, simply nodded his head. The Skydancer didn't need to hear any more before he helped Lucius back to his clan that was nearby. Lucius was in and out of sleep for the next day or so, but every time he woke up, the Skydancer was by his side ready to help him and bringing him food. As Lucius’s strength returned, he began talking to the kind Skydancer. He discovered that the dragon's name was Sorin. Sorin was the healer of the clan, and it was something he took a lot of pride in. It was clear to Lucius that Sorin was a deeply caring dragon, and he began to really like him. Sorin mentioned something about also being a dancer, but it was clear that he wasn't going to extrapolate much on that topic. It wasn't long before he began to wander around the rest of the clan and met other dragons who lived there. Many of them were kind to him and welcomed him if he wanted to stay with them, which is something he was hoping to do. A younger dragon followed him around and often wanted to wrestle with him. In his weaker state, it was almost a fair fight. Lucius still won every time, though. The other dragon never got discouraged, in fact, he only seemed to enjoy being around Lucius more. As he stayed there, he spent time protecting the clan from the Beastclan and other small threats. It was fun for him. It reminded him of his past fights, but now he wasn't being forced to fight. He had no plans to leave, and even began to warm up to the females in the clan. Originally, he was a bit wary of them due to his past with his matriarch. Now, he was happy to trade small talk with them. Lucius was finally happy with where he was, and he continued to cultivate a relationship with Sorin until they were eventually mates. He loved to watch Sorin dance. Lucius was finally home, surrounded with family and friends, and truly happy. |
