Matriarch
Leader, warrior, mother to ghosts

Leave in blood or glory, but leave nonetheless

Tenya doesn't know where she came from, but she knows she wants to leave where she is. She travelled Sornieth, seeking a home, and found nothing but dissatisfaction. She lived in the lands of the Fire flight for many years, but even there she felt a yearning for a place she had never been. Finally, she returned home to the place of her birth, the Starwood Strand, where she resolved to use the knowledge and magic of her people to achieve her only dream: to open a portal to another universe, in hope of finding a home there. She built a great maze of rooms below the ground, and over time more wanderers were drawn there; some by accident, others by the inexorable pull of something like fate.

The day the portal opened was one of great joy and celebration. All gathered below, in the deepest reaches of the lair, to see the final preparations. Finally, they were ready. Switches were flicked, magic was cast, and an ominous, purple glow settled over everything. They had opened a portal, but not to another world. The portal instead opened onto a void - the void, the endless blackness of the space between realities.

None who saw it were unchanged, and the dim purple light of the portal settled over the entire lair, warping and altering everything it touched. Tenya, far from daunted, is determined to succeed. Through the mind-altering influence of the void and the influence of those around her, she becomes steadily more convinced that this was not a failure at all. That in fact, the void is the home she has been searching for all this time. Now, she seeks knowledge of how to survive the void, to become one with it. She has sacrificed nearly all of her children - and the children of others - to the cause, pushing them into the portal almost as soon as they lived. None have survived, but she has found some success elsewhere. Nonetheless, she has left a trail of death behind her; when she cannot hear they call her Mother to Ghosts and other, less kind things.
