Biography

GQpKZWp.png
Hi. I'm RexD999. I'm chaotic evil, and I've got a story I'd like to share with you from my perspective. It's a long one, told largely through discord screenshots, and I don't blame you if you don't want to slog through the whole thing. So here's a summary of events:

Goldia wanted a Light Sprite and thought she couldn't get one but then a bunch of seedlings said 'but what if you could, though?' Chaos and terror ensued, and then Goldia won a Light Sprite.

... What's that? That's an unsatisfactory summary of events which doesn't really even sum up what actually happened, at all, in any way, whatsoever?

What a shame.

CHAPTER ONE: MONDAY

Let's set the stage. We're in Nature's LOST discord server. LOST is a program that at this time was run by MeadowMatriarch, and its purpose is to welcome new players to the game and encourage them to explore the site and learn its mechanics largely through scavenger hunt-style quests. The LOST discord isn't just exclusive to newbies, of course - it's also home to LOST assistants, program graduates such as myself, veteran players who help sponsor and teach newbies who join in (such as Goldia, the star of our story), and a handful of out-of-flighters.

It's Monday morning, the 14th of December. We're one full day into the battle between Fire and Light. Everybody's hanging out, watching the chaos begin to unfold. Things aren't too crazy yet, but the fodder floor is already climbing, reaching 13.5kt at one point during the day; it will only go higher. For many in the server, this is their first Dominance battle, and the dom-chat channel is filled with newer players speculating on how much higher the floor will rise and boggling at the crazy prices.

During all this, Goldia is facing a dilemma: she's yeeting 0t fodder to Light, because she wants the Light Sprite that they've put up as the prize for their Total 0t Dragons category - it's the last non-kickstarter familiar she needs. But...

_
Let's take a step back, here. I'm in this chat too - though I'm not doing too much yet, because I'd pre-leveled two hundred level 10 fodder dragons for this battle, and I'm taking a break after a particularly intense profit push the week before. I'm also sitting on a stockpile of one hundred hatchlings I purchased prior to the battle starting, all slated to grow up within the week. Now, everyone knows that I am very evil, so I make an offer:
_
cc9aec067ccebe1d68c289165c61bbed.png
_
It's a terrible omen of things to come, but a deal is tentatively struck. I go back to looking at foddart and doing some casual sniping for more dragons to level, before going to my night class.

CHAPTER TWO: TUESDAY

Tuesday comes around, bringing bad news for Goldia:
_
b9c7508314d1c91ec3481d93918900e8.png
_
Light's 0t battle is being dominated by two other competitors, and Goldia's budget and reserve of fodder is not limitless in the face of a 14kt-and-rising fodder floor.

But there's a shining ray of hope: Fire is also offering a Light Sprite, and also as their 0t Dragons prize! When Goldia checks their spreadsheet's number, she finds that the leader in their race is only up to 163 dragons. She's got a critical decision to make, and she needs to make it now.
_
24676e8f70ff4579c952912098e19782.png
_
She's got a lot of fodder stored and quite a hoard of gems as well, saved specifically for the purpose of getting a Light Sprite - but to risk it all? What if someone richer, someone with more resources, were to come up and buy their way past? What if it's all for nothing, and she wastes the very gems she worked so hard to save? It's a hard risk to take. But in the end, with some encouragement from the chat, she decides to go for it:
_
3493bb9d7353d6976ec0f9f9e782b051.png
_
The mood in the channel is still deceptively chill. No one could ever expect the chaos that would begin to unfold from this moment on.

I start sending fodder to Goldia, but she hasn't converted her gems to treasure quite yet and doesn't have enough to buy all of them - so of course, I send her a loan via one-way CR so she can buy them up.

_
65ab6840eadb9e9e2d8e15d708546698.png
_
I am very smart, as well as very evil, and also very chaotic. Likely6 here gets it.
_
4ce11b6bc1d1afe7306a4e9180103315.png
_
Even Goldia is fascinated with my immaculate strategies.

Now, let's step to the side and establish something really quick here that might be confusing you if you already know something of what happened during this battle. At this time, we're working under the assumption that only fully grown dragons count towards the 0t Dragons category...

_
21b00769572f7980f7267081e26bbfff.png
_
This makes the contest a lot harder, because an adult fodder dragon costs around three times as much as a hatchling at this time. It's a tricky situation, but Goldia's starting to feel hopeful. Nightsky brings up the topic of possibly bringing in snipers to help.
_
80c3180ae230d71dfdc0befe17cf40c6.png
_
By now, conversation in the channel has pretty much entirely turned to Goldia and the Light Sprite she's trying to win, with much discussion on finding the best strategy. Nobody here, not even Goldia, expects what's about to happen in the following days. Wild enthusiasm is slowly starting to build up, and like a car set in neutral on the side of Mt. Everest, we begin an unstoppable descent into chaos.
_
0a28d9e58ae283d3abfcd8de6628aa8b.png
_
There's two approaches to this battle, the chat thinks. One is to simply dump a ton of fodder all at once, to intimidate other competitors into not bothering - the same thing that happened to Goldia at Light. The other is to hang back a little, build up a strong store, and then dump it on the last day to snipe the battle while the leading competitor is lulled into a false sense of security. Both methods have potential upsides and downsides, and there's a very possible wrench in either: Fire's going to be offering a dramatically increased raffle ticket multiplier for 0t dragons on Saturday, which means that others might also have the same idea of storing fodder and dumping it in on that day.

The steadily building enthusiasm is drawing attention from others in the discord towards our noble cause. Simplyonewinged coins what will become an infamous term in the week to come:

_

_
It's already too late, Goldia. Operation: Get Goldia a Light Sprite, also known as OP:GGLS, also known as Operation Giggles, has now officially begun. We encounter a brief moment of confusion, as Fire's 0t section only displays 'levels' instead of 'dragons;' Goldia sends a PM to one of their raffle operators in the hopes of getting a separate section added.

We discuss roles - I know that I'll have as much as 300 spaces in my hibernal den to hold over the course of the week as I empty out my pre-leveled dragons, and I can also snipe. Likely6 and Nightsky123 declare themselves ready to snipe for the cause as well.

The issue of money comes up, and I take up the role of 'operation treasury' and start handing out funds - I had stored up plenty from our profit push - to the team, as Goldia is still running short on treasure. With three of us working together to supply Goldia, she sends in 102 dragons in our first day fighting in Fire. Our excitement is building.

_
We are naive and very, very reckless. Goldia goes to bed, and we continue sniping for a while. Nightsky123 comes up with a genius idea, and figures out a method to sort unnamed hatchlings in the AH by age - they shift some of their focus from adults and start to snipe fodder that will grow up by the end of the push, sending them into my den for storage. We start gaining even more recruits - Eschtaaa comes in as a sniper and holder, bringing somewhere in the order of 80 more hibden slots for the team. Deimiad - a brand new player with an account less than a month old at the time - brings some hatchlings, and also starts sniping. LOST assistant davietoowavey joins in as a holder with 180 spaces. Another veteran, Teewie, offers a hefty 250kt donation to the cause, and sends it to me so I can distribute it between the snipers as needed.

As the day goes on, Likely6 has a wonderful idea. They start playing around with an FR achievement generator, and produce a wonderful badge for our victory.

There's a powerful air of camaraderie and holiday spirit as we all band together to help one member of our community achieve her dream.

However, a quick look at the leaderboard brings a sharp surprise to Goldia when she comes back online.

_
28c4ce9884b78530b3eccb8042d7afc7.png
_
Fire has changed the leaderboard to display dragons instead of levels as requested, but there's a new player on the field - one who also got spooked by the high competition in Light and shifted to Fire.

The Giggles know that we can't allow this new threat to stand in our way. We start to pick up speed, driven to overtake the competition like hounds after a hare. Our determination starts to draw attention and even more help from others in the server: Skiidge joins as a sniper, as does LOST assistant odakotarose. Likely6's dad, who also plays FR but lives in Wind, offers to donate a copious amount of funds to the cause. Lydun - another brand new player - also comes in to help snipe, along with Pretzalcoatl; both quickly learn the ins and outs of effective sniping. Feleathion comes in to help us scout out Old Oaks - dragons of age three years and up - so we can get them safely out of the battle. Bolstered by the amazing show of support, we come alive with renewed productivity.

naturemidsmall.png
naturevs1.png
Do you know about Galopa's Old Oaks? It's a program dedicated to preserving Flight Rising's legacy by fostering and re-homing older dragons who might otherwise find themselves exalted. OP:GGLS rescued several such old dragons over the course of the battle week, including the seven year old this piece is featured in, sniped by likely6! Here's a handful more that passed through my lair:

CHAPTER THREE: WEDNESDAY

The dom-chat channel - usually one of the more sedate ones on the server - is now more active than the rest of the server combined, as various snipers and holders use it to coordinate their efforts. Goldia returns from some appointments and observes the chaos.
_
869d15f37f5fbea4f5ea725b4e993b92.png
_
We start to gain ground on the competition, going 232 dragons to their 374 in a matter of hours. As rollover draws near and we enter Wednesday, the Giggle Squad is starting to get hyped...
_
0f12040e97aa0c5743c2b982df31839f.png
_
... But it's still late at night for some people, including myself. I go to bed, but the party doesn't stop while I'm not there, and pretty soon an extremely important discovery is made.
_
b9106993e5500ceacf0a237c698119e0.png
_
It changes everything. If we were sniping before, now we might as well be chucking grenades - a hatchling costs a third of an adult dragon at this moment, and there's significantly less competition for them at this point in the week. We begin zooming up from behind on the backs of 5kt and 4g hatchlings, and by the time I wake up the score has become our 472 to our opponent's 532.

The plan is now to load the holders while Goldia is sleeping or at work, and go all-out whenever she's on. OP:GGLS has now hit its full stride. Goldia has by now converted a couple thousand gems into treasure, and starts to receive copious amounts of hatchies from up to five or six snipers at once. The only limit on our speed suddenly becomes the ability of Fire's catchers to record each batch we sling to Goldia, up to 70 at a time.

_
5c38cb023d1bad096087584856a52276.png
_
For the first time, we lunge into first place, like a bull into a rodeo arena. FR newcomer BitterBoomslang joins in, rapidly picking up the basics of sniping to join the fray with passion. We've become an engine of charitable chaos, and no children are safe.
_
419339140fd60d788059077822fa554d.png
_
We bring the lead up to 811 vs 697 by the time Goldia has to head to bed. The team pivots to sending to our infinitely patient holders, and the dens begin to fill. LOST assistant DarknessFalls joins on as a holder and sniper with 130 den slots of their own. OP:GGLS falls into a hectic but easy rhythm as snipers obtain hatchlings, send them to holders, and are sent funds to continue sniping in turn. The prices for hatchlings begin to rise, with the floor fluctuating between 8kt and 9kt. LOST graduate LuxRVA and LOST assistant WardenoftheBluff start helping out as suppliers and snipers as well, and server administrator and LOST proprietor MeadowMatriarch herself steps into the chaos to join as a holder with over 300 slots, drastically increasing our capacity.

Meanwhile, I'm getting my very first tiny taste of what it's like to co-run a Dom effort.

_
b9fc9bb1484cbad24d85f73fe0a87eb0.png
_
With Goldia sleeping, our opponent jumps us - but the team's confidence is still strong, and as rollover comes around me and several others start peeling off to get some rest with high hopes for the next day.

naturemidsmall.png
naturevs1.png
There were many cute hatchlings sniped over the course of the week, but we couldn't afford to spare any of them in our great hurry - with a few exceptions! During the battle, the squad sniped two veilspuns - a new breed at the time. 1, 2

The squad also sniped four primals - two Ice, one Lightning, and one Plague! In order: 1, 2, 3, 4
naturevs1.png
naturemidsmall.png
CHAPTER FOUR: THURSDAY

I awaken to find that we have another recruit, newcomer to the game anarchopossum who had come in and promised to help snipe after getting some sleep. The morning is productive - we regain the lead again just in time for Goldia to attend to some real world business.
_
0add513e0ad9ffa399368361682b6e30.png
_
When she returns, we continue to blitz, and the number of hatchlings being tossed into the Fire grows. Nobody remembers the time where we thought a few hundred hatchlings would be enough to secure a victory. By the time Goldia has to leave again, we're ahead at 1567 vs 1392. I take the opportunity to encourage the team to take a well-earned break.
_
4612d514cb0ae5ef2f6c03e163449f1b.png
_
Some on the team continue sniping, but the tone for the rest of the day is much more relaxed. I take the opportunity to nap... and odakotarose hatches a plan of her own.
_
90411a1592828f66476a79d0084223fb.png
_
The operation has been running in an incredibly chaotic manner up until this point, with little to no actual organization - it's a simple arrangement with snipers sending to holders for 1t and pinging me for more funding when they run low, or sending to Goldia at the original sniping price.

But now, oda was building something new and powerful for her secret plan: a spreadsheet for our snipers to record on... and, for those who hadn't done it before, teach them how to record dragons for Nature's Guilds, Groves, and IF raffles! We become even more organized and powerful.

_
687a8967dd5ce94d2209803643c05946.png

_
f48869e424a760eda9029f697897c101.png
_
... and oda reveals herself to be even more diabolical than I am!

We spend most of the rest of the day filling out the spreadsheet using the previous days' AH receipts. LOST graduate Grymmlock as well as current student smolfroglesbian join as snipers after learning what was going on, and we have another surprise guest who begins messaging me about helping out, even though she was working hard to send levels to Light...

_
4cff77c0ab3677f29708edc4ead9d4c2.png
_
... Naturally, this is met with extreme enthusiasm from the Giggle Squad! The channel is now moving so insanely fast that the server mods have to start pinning relevant posts to keep information readily available. Even so, this happens pretty much any time anyone comes online from here on out:
_
fc624856f52df332c91da5b1ee03cc7d.png
_
We head to rollover in high spirits, despite the fact that the competition is now leading by around 200 dragons.

CHAPTER FIVE: FRIDAY

Our grassroots nonsense delights Goldia, who I must remind you asked for none of this whatsoever. With Goldia around, we reenter blitz mode and once again pull ahead of the competition, and the squad erupts into wild celebration amidst the continued efforts.

_
There are a few other bright spots of humor over the course of the day, such as when Teewie decides to go look at how the 0t Dragon race in Light was progressing:
_
879336c412b5f97a3e50e0c1342123b2.png
_
Goldia heads to bed solidly in the lead, and I take the opportunity to grab some Zs as well. The rest of the team carries on with sniping and storing, and we have even more amazing art come forward, courtesy of anarchopossum - who had decided to make badges for the operation's different roles!
_
434b5893f62d410e2198de57e1d54723.png
_
d4451c7bb5d3bd74bcfb28b05298f34e.png
_
Goldia wakes up once again with 30 hours left to go in the raffle. Discussion turns to when to deploy the fodder stored in hibden - and it was decided that, to best ensure we'd have enough time to move it all, we would begin sending in a mix of stored fodder and new snipes.
_
25345a735da5b861620ced67d56f07c7.png
_
The battle is getting increasingly intense at this point - our opponent dumps in a truly impressive batch of fodder from their den, upping their lead to over a hundred dragons - which is quickly overturned as the Giggles holder squad begins emptying their own dens. OP:GGLS slams into overdrive as the finish line comes into view.

_

_
The team is determined to win, though some are starting to feel some battle anxiety, and some reassurances are necessary.
_
16dfb4c59a286305f3f47a70b55c93cd.png
_
But Goldia's numbers keep getting bigger. And bigger. And bigger.
_
237bee8367bddf70d397237d6218bd27.png
_
And as the clock strikes midnight in my timezone, two hours before rollover...
_
d54214e980735505e47d1fceef1dc123.png
_
It's getting to the point now where, as hatchling prices rise and sniping competition gets fiercer, our own collective sniping begins to slow down.
_
b337046792bd4a7f050810fa19a8a9ad.png
_
But we have a strong lead at this point, with over 350 fodder still stored in various dens. In addition, our opponent's number hasn't risen in a few hours, and speculation starts up on whether they have decided to cut their losses or simply gone to sleep. We also have even more support joining on at some point in the chaos - AttilaThePun comes in and helps round out our 11th hour snipers, and FR veteran Casethrace donates treasure to the cause! By the time rollover finally comes a-calling, we're ahead 3199 to 2619.

CHAPTER SIX: SATURDAY

Rollover hits and with it a sense of triumph, and the part of the team still awake goes to grab drinks and snacks.
_
f0e46578ca1b6164467b34d4a6805160.png
_
But Saturday has a few surprises in store for us.
_
3a17f85af51eee68a380f4c949a91230.png
_
We're not quite so impressed with what Fire has to offer...

_
59426b31af64a4f18607bef4111f8a9c.png
_
But Light is throwing their biggest possible hat into the ring.

Discussion turns to the matter of what to do with the new information - with a Bone Fiend on the line there is now a very strong possibility that if we get far enough ahead, our competition will wake up and decide that it would be more worth it to switch over for a shot at the coveted KS familiar. There is also the idea that, if our lead becomes very secure, Goldia would be best served sending the remaining stored fodder over that way herself.

We carry on into the morning, and finally come up on a 1000 dragon lead.

_
fbba3911783b61a357f3cedba6a659a2.png
_
Now, the debate on whether or not to send some stored fodder to Light became much more serious. With such a commanding lead, it's tempting, but we still have no idea what our opponent will do when they wake up. We start strategizing, analyzing how much time was left, and double-checking what time rollover would be for our opponent. This ensues...
_
adfa230484e7ee41411e31a02de84855.png
_
Definitely a highlight, and a testament to our combined wisdom and strategic prowess. We decide to take a break at this point - Goldia needs to eat dinner, and on the other side of the world I have a welding test to go pass that morning.
_
e80bbfe9af07bd2546b5d08b5f391c11.png
_
It's also at this point that Goldia decides it's about time to start tentatively dialing back the operation, with our primary objective seemingly under control:
_
ebf7e5c9104abbc8ac213647f88e2cf6.png
_
We begin encouraging the other members of the Giggle Squad to snipe and resell to their own benefit.
_
13f251a5adea82ea038e3b3f16fac3d6.png
_
... And the team takes it to heart, using their well-honed sniping skills to make mad cash for themselves on the last - and most profitable - day of the battle. The chat has fun posting their profits.

_
fbdbafedf050c8f13f40540c3beeb7c6.png
_
As the hours trickle by with no response from our only competitor, things begin to look more and more secure. Finally, the time to make a decision comes around, and...

With seven hours left to go in the battle, Goldia heads back to Light.

It's decided that everyone is now fully free to do their own thing, and Goldia is going to use the rest of what we had stored up to make a play for the Fiend. I decide to help her towards that excellent goal, because the idea of Goldia snagging both the Sprite and the Fiend at once is delightfully evil to me.

We keep going, all the while watching the various leaderboards in both flights for any surprises, with much speculation as to who was gunning for what prize. I notice an unfortunate turn of events for our opponent, who had seemingly decided to back out after all:

As long as they aren't threatening our lead on the Sprite, it doesn't matter too much to us. All the same, we keep sharp eyes on those leaderboards, watching for any sudden floods or upsets threatening to occur...

But there will be no late floods. The day wears on, and the leaderboard remains the same with an hour and a half left to go until rollover.

Goldia sends a few final hatchlings to Fire to make her total there a nice, even 3750. And for the last hour of the battle we ease up and watch the clock run out, filled with relief and good humor. Tentative celebration starts up in the chat.

We do a lot of reminiscing on the chaos of the week, and the amazing energy that had been present in the server, with everyone coming together for one altruistic goal.

And with that, the battle is officially over. Celebrations in the chat continue, but many disperse, either going to bed or preparing themselves for the imminent start of Night of the Nocturne.

The following Tuesday, Fire begins drawing for their OOF raffle. Goldia is officially confirmed as the winner of the 0t Dragons category, and the Light Sprite; it arrives safe and sound in its new home.

And with that, the operation is officially a success. But that's not quite the end of this story. What happened to the Bone Fiend?

While Fire starts their raffle, Light is still dealing with issues in their recording process, with many of their attendants working through the backlog of Saturday entries and filling from personal sheets as the days progress; they then pause proceedings so that the entrants can have a chance to check their ticket entries. It isn't until the 27th that their raffle finally starts to be drawn, and...

So close. Within a hair's breadth. But not quite. Goldia settles for a Plague Sprite, declaring full intention to sell it and use the proceeds from it to generously gift the members of Team Giggles who had given their time to help her.

Still. Two Sprites? Pretty neat.

And that's the end of the story. Nothing particularly exciting happened after that - Goldia placed in both flights' main raffles, but wasn't drawn in the first round of either. There was some considerable spreadsheet wrangling as we tried to figure out what the total cost of getting the sprite had actually been. And, of course, many gifts were thrown around as the holiday season reached its peak.

In retrospect, I'm amazed things came together the way they did. So many people came together to help, and many of them didn't know Goldia very well prior to the operation. A part of me wonders if it would have even happened if the server hadn't been particularly involved in the profit push the week before, or if it hadn't been the week before Christmas.

But no matter the factors that made it possible, it was a herculean effort by a large group of people, all of whom deserve full credit:
