" Writing lends permanence to our ever-changing world."

- JENSEN -

╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

Nym’s greatest mistake. Oberon’s regret. Titania’s caretaker. Odin’s assistant. Jensen often feels that his identity is overshadowed by the impressions others have of him. He was born amidst the turmoil of his parent’s failing relationship, and regardless of his mother’s attempts to raise him, he never felt welcome in his home. The constant feelings of inferiority battling for dominance within him led Jensen to become a solitary dragon. Finding himself unable to talk to anyone, he resorted to journaling. Without a teacher, Jensen had to teach himself the art of holding a delicate quill and scratching letters onto paper. It was a difficult task, and in the first few months, he was frequently seen crumpling up papers and muttering under his breath about “bungling, oafish paws.” Nonetheless, learn he did.

When he mastered the art, Jensen found his place in the clan as a scribe. Although the clan has a few other dragons capable of writing, Jensen holds the position of court scribe. As such, he is trusted with the most important of Fethryn’s correspondances, as well as the inscription of laws. On slow days, Fethryn dispatches him to help Odin in the archives. Jensen relishes the opportunity to peruse the scrolls there, and Odin appreciates the help on the days when old age makes his bones ache and his eyes blur. In the beginning, Jensen collected his earnings only to take care of his younger sister Titania, but once she was grown, he found he had fallen in love with his profession. He took on a position with Odin alongside his courtly duties, but quickly found himself bored with the seemingly random facts and figures that fascinated the archivist. Although he still helps out occasionally, Jensen came to found his own line of work as well, as a “Prolific Scribbler” as he deemed himself.

Philosophies, poems, advice, recipes: anything that came to Jensen’s head would end up printed and tacked up somewhere in his den as he tried to make sense of his thoughts, his past, and himself. Eventually, he found the cave too dim and dreary for his line of work, and he relocated a better lit den beside the nursery. As a result, he met his half-sister and possibly closest friend: Nix. She was his father’s daughter from a different dragoness, and like him, an oldest child left in charge of younger siblings. She was also blind. In an effort to learn how to navigate her dark world, Nix set to work on exploring the mountainous terrain outside the nursery. For his part, Jensen was justly flabbergasted at the dark little hatchling prodding at his flank and making her way towards his head. He was even more confused when she took a leap from his nose into his freshly scrawled pages, decimating his work and covering herself in ink.

A wonderful friendship started on that summer afternoon, and Jensen found himself enjoying being Nix’s obstacle course; he even found himself a tad disappointed when she outgrew the pleasure of exploring his expansive blue body. Still, Nix was always willing to lend an ear to his latest philosophies, finding the beauty in his vivid descriptions of the world and frequently asking him to describe the weather, the sky, the landscape, everything she couldn’t see for herself. He indulged her every time, and the two remain nearly inseparable.

Jensen is closest with Nix and then with Titania, but his friends are few and far between. Though he has taken a liking to a few dragonesses in his time, love has a way of leaving Jensen worse off than before, and he has little motivation to find a mate, preferring to tuck himself away with his scrolls and his stylus. Although Jensen has three children, he has never met them, although this is through no fault of their own. When Komatora laid the eggs, he dutifully offered to raise them and become her mate, but she turned him down, for reasons he could never quite fathom. Instead, she sent the eggs away, to loving homes as she assured him, but she robbed him of the chance to father his children, and it was a long time before he could forgive her for it. The two are estranged, but Jensen bears her as little ill will as he can. Presently, there is a slight softening in his heart towards Libra, but he knows it is not to be. Though he is aware of her love for him, he is resolved not to tempt her away from her charge, for it would only be cruel to convince her to abandon the one she is sworn to serve and protect. Instead, he supplies Libra with an endless stream of literary enjoyments, many from his own pen, though she doesn't realize it. For now, he must hope that her affection will keep until the two can be together.

It is worth noting that Jensen’s view of his own upbringing is surprisingly narrow minded. He considers his parents selfish dragons who abandoned him, but he forgets that his mother ensured he always had food, water, a safe place to sleep, and a career. (It was only her intervention that convinced Fethryn of his need for a court scribe, but she would rather her son not know it.) His father, while not an active part of his life, is still distantly proud of his son for his success. Although Jensen partially raised himself, his mother was hardly more than a child herself when she tried to take on two children. To his credit, he does acknowledge that she was a wonderful mother to his half-siblings.

As a result of living so much in his own head, Jensen has a very long winded and pretentious way of speaking, as if every conversation has been scripted and rehearsed to the point of dullness. He is the brunt of many jokes, but he either does not mind or does not waste time trying to understand them. Always looking for a new spot to write, Jensen goes nowhere without a satchel full of ink, pens, and parchment. Still, he may never puzzle out the complexities of his very being.
