Raksha, it hears them whisper each night as she comes near, and the beasts hang charms in their windows and scratch runes on their doors. They're pretty things, but sometimes they burn—sprigs of rowan, ash, and holly, tied with red thread; iron beaten into the sigil of some beastclan god—and send her away, bitter and hissing. Those dens she always remembers, waiting for the night they go incautious. Her favorites, though— their charms are no more than pleasing decorations, and the beasts within sleep with their heads full of color and passion. Then she is a sweet shimmer of light wrapped about their shoulders, and she drinks them up like milk and honey. (It finds new favorites often: too many visits and the colors dull, and then cease to appear entirely. Sometimes it bores before then; often not.) Raksha, they say, as they make sigils with their hands. She hears the word so often, when she is near. It must be her name.
