Ward of the Old Queen Regnant and Mate to the Red Beast...........................................................
Devana

Taken captive during Zhanna's reign, Devana was completely isolated from the rest of the clan, save for Zhanna, her sorceresses, and her mate, Simargl. She didn't know why or how she ended up what was then the Lair of the Zorya, just that she was a very important part of a project that even now, Devana is not sure she understands 100%.

Due to Zhanna's use of the Red Beast to commit unspeakable crimes against those who opposed her rule, the Old Queen Regnant has either banished or detained those who were directly involved with the Red Beast. However, during Zhanna's reign, it was well- known that Devana was the only one capable of speaking to the Red Beast. As a result, the Old Queen Regnant, recognizing Devana's importance in containing the Red Beast, declared Devana as her ward. Despite this, Devana continues to have very little freedom, and has not set foot outside the Inner Cloisters' walls since she was brought into the clan.

Also as a result of the Red Beast's reputation, any offspring that result from the few meetings Devana is allowed with the Red Beast are immediately sent off to the Ice Warden. This harsh policy has led to many heated discussions between Devana and the Old Queen.

"Please, My Lady! They are but children! You yourself have dismissed the prophecies of the Sisters of the Zorya as nothing but propaganda created by Zhanna and her wicked mother. They pose no harm to the clan... and all of my children in the past have been cast out of their own home almost immediately after hatching. Please, allow me one... just one!"

But the old queen's answer was always the same-

"I am aware that the Usurper used lies, slander, and fear to control you and the rest of this clan in the past. But I also cannot deny the existence... or should I say, former existence, of those who were slaughtered by the Red Beast. I have allowed you to continue meeting with him in the hopes that one day, he does not have to be under constant guard. But to expect him to be freed is not realistic. And to have the offspring of such a creature walking freely among the clan would cause a mass panic. As a mother, I understand your distress, but you must remember that this is a clan, a group. And there are still many who lost friends and family to your mate. I assure you, they have not forgotten what the Red Beast is."

Initially, Devana thought she understood the queen's reasoning, and did her best to accept it. Except she never could...

PERSONALITY:Once a cheerful character, Devana has become lonely and now, resentful of those she once thought as her protectors, but now only sees as new captors. While she has been allowed free movement within the Inner Cloisters- a small grouping of ice towers that are part of the heavily fortified interior of the Keep- she is forbidden from going out into public, even with an armed escort. The Old Queen Regnant insists that it is both for Devana and the clan's mutual safety, but Devana now only believes the Old Queen wishes to continue hiding the "dirty secrets" remaining from Zhanna the Usurper's reign.

She spends most of her time either in her quarters, writing, or out in one of the small courtyards. Outside of the guards, who are in constant attendance, she has very few individuals she can speak to, and virtually none who she can confide her insecurities in.

Despite her sadness and loneliness, Devana has vowed to free herself from this situation. She has already put the "players" on the board, but it remains up to them to decide how to proceed...
