Inheriting her mother's fighting spirit, Hiatu is not one to back down. She doesn't prefer hand to hand combat, however. She prefers attacking from above; quick and sharp so that her enemy doesn't have time to attack back. Not only that, but she's been distant her whole life. She prefers to work alone, where she can think to herself and plan in peace. Working with other dragons exhausts her. Many dragons know by now not to expect much activity from her.

On top of being a great sharpshooter, Hiatu is also an explorer. She looked up to Tesoro as a hatchling, and developed the need to travel. Though unlike her idol, she prefers to explore the oceans below. This is an odd trait for a wind flight dragon, and half of the time she feels like she was born in the wrong place. Along with her shale thresher, she explores the ocean depths. Her name means "chasm" in Latin.
