Vanity we celebrate, my favourite of sins. xxxxxDefiance. Hatred. Curiosity. xxxxxWhatever it was that gave rise to Arthas, died with their creator at the hand of his creation. Shade blessed and twisted, they were born of experimentation and magic working hand in hand--and is living proof of exactly why this is a dangerous idea. xxxxxHowever, it seems slaughter was not the Guardian’s primary goal, or the only thing they were capable of. Stitched together with the Shade and now able to hear its whisperings, Arthas began to learn about it, about themself, about necromancy and from early on, showed a great proficiency for the darkest of arts. Life till now has been a waste xxxxxThey learned of the reason for their creation from carefully kept notes, and within them numerous studies on the scourge of Sornieth: Emperors. Arthas was enthralled, strived to learn more. They read that they only formed from Imperials... xxxxxBut that couldn’t have been correct! Why, they were just as close to these fabled beings as they could have been, made of others long dead and animated under their own (or the Shade’s) power. xxxxxYes, Arthas knew the truth now, emperors were not specific to Imperials, and they could prove it, too. So they picked up where their creator left off, dark experiments performed on others without even the slightest sense of remorse when they went… wrong. In the splendour of the night; I've found company xxxxxPerhaps in an odd twist of fate, Arthas was not discovered until a few long decades after rising. They were captured by the Collectors after their ambition drove them to wipe an entire Arcane clan off the map. A move that cost them their freedom for centuries after. xxxxxThe battle was short-lived, Toil's magic taming and subduing the pseudo-Emperor within a few short minutes. They were contained under the highest security, forced into a near-stupor by constant pressure from Toil's magic, enchanted into the walls of their cell. They were allowed slight interaction with other Collected, but never out of the cell. xxxxxAnd then Yasu killed Toil. And freed every Collected dragon. xxxxxIncluding Arthas. |

All the wrongs seem to be right; Drowned in ecstasy xxxxxWith the small, newly-formed Shade clan taking its first, shaking steps, Arthas spends most of their time recovering from the magial suppression. Often they still lapse into periods of stupor, especially when left alone, or in a small space like their former cell. xxxxxBut their lucid hours are spent either actively searching for ways to end the enchantments' residual effects entirely or acting as something of a... medic... to the rest of the clan. xxxxxThey're not entirely transparent about their past. The others can tell they're made of multiple dragons and their vagueness doesn't lend to trust. But their knowledge of anatomy and the Shade's functions are too valuable to the clan to press on the matter with them. But no one has become any more or less infected after an operation, so... maybe they can be trusted? For now, at least. 
In a state of still; Only then I'm yours until the day I die xxxxxArthas’s strange existence is not without its caveats, of course. Like every guardian they have a charge, the desire to search for it hard-wired into them by way of years of evolution. Unlike most of their kind though, Arthas experiences the call to seek the charge of every part of their body. Connected near-seamlessly through dark intervention, the search manifests as a strange tugging deep inside them- pangs to seek out something to protect subsequently denied by a mindset that has convinced them that they have no need for a charge. xxxxxThere are times, though, when someone stumbles across them tinkering with the Collectors' old tools and laboratories. There are times when they're in a stupor where they talk about finding something. There have been a few... instances with them. But giving the Guardians a wide berth when they're out of it is generally regarded as a good idea. (Blood/Body Horror warning) X | X | X by Ammymimi |
