She never really understood where her powers came from, they were with her as long as she could remember. She always made things happen, sometimes unintentionally but as she grew she learned how to channel and perfect her powers. She spent much of her youth traveling all around the world learning new skills and methods for her magic from each of the flights, when she returned home to her Plague family she noticed it was missing someone near and dear to her, her good friend Darius, his parents said they hadn't had any contact with him since he took off on his great search, so Maleficent started a great search of her own to find him. She searched high and low until she finally saw him, she tackled him to the ground, squeezing him tightly with her wings. He begged her to stay with him and his new family and she couldn't resist, he was her best friend since birth so she stayed. She always secretly had a thing for him and seeing him go through women over and over she grew somewhat bitter of the love that never would be. She finally settled down with a young Alchemist in the clan, and together they made each other stronger.
