No one in the clan was expecting Buttercup's sister to show up and demand entry into the clan. And they certainly weren't expecting her to show up as a hatchling, barely out of her egg. Put frankly, no one was prepared for Chickpea in the slightest. Buttercup was as shocked as the rest of them, but he welcomed his little sister (who, at the time of her arrival, had nearly quadrupled him in size) and the rest of the clan did the same. She was considered to be particularly loud and boisterous, and for some reason, very easily startled. Most of the clan attributed these traits to normal childish eccentricities, but on one occasion, where Edelweiss had been speaking to Chickpea for several minutes before the hatchling noticed (and was startled by) the Spiral, it was determined that the Guardian had some form of hearing loss. As she has gotten older, Chickpea's hearing has gotten progressively worse. In need of a way to communicate with her clanmates without constantly shouting, she adopted a young manticore, whom she named Blueberry Jam, and trained him as a service animal. Jam is able to perform many various tasks for Chickpea, such as alerting her to the presence of another dragon, understanding and signing simple words and phrases, and fetching various things for his mistress. A bold, determined young dragon, Chickpea has yet to discover her Charge, but seems unbothered by the fact. She enjoys trailing along after Buttercup as he tends to his ever-growing flock of dodos, spending her time searching for prime clay for sculpting while keeping an eye on her brother and ensuring that no harm comes to him. From a young age she was fascinated with clay and she has become an accomplished artist, producing works that she sells to traders and neighboring clans. She possesses surprising delicacy for a Guardian, using both her claws and trace amounts of wind magic to create her smaller works. Her art has garnered her some small acclaim, and she hopes to expand her sales to other regions. The treasure she has earned is carefully counted and stashed away, as Buttercup hopes that at some point they will be able to afford a healer who might fashion a hearing aid for his sister. Chickpea agrees that such would be nice, but for now she is happy just sculpting.
