Biography

Dreja the Spellmaster
Plotting | Learned | Petty
“You think I am weak for I do not fight with tooth and claw?"
?
Origin Light
Mate Batu
Ally Amaryllis
Faction The Sunstrike
Rank Sorceress Queen
Enemy Corrit

Those in the Lightweaver's realm hadn't a chance of understanding her. Raised in a scholarly clan, her innate aptitude for spellcasting was encouraged since she was a hatchling, her family proud to see their line of powerful sorcerers continue. It didn't take long for her hunger of knowledge to outstrip the clan's impressive library. She ventured beyond their borders, deeper into the realm, down into the forgotten relics and abandoned ruins of a bygone empire. Spirits lurked among the stones, but she cared not, exploring the depths and poring over spellbooks that had not been touched in centuries.

The knowledge within those half ruined scrolls would have made a mundane drake mad.

Dreja absorbed them all, her power growing beyond the realm of 'acceptable' magic into something darker, something deeper. When her clan learned of her studies, her research was burned, and she was driven beyond the suntouched realm of her birth. She would have been forced to aimlessly wander, if it were not for a certain whisper in her mind. Something within her pushed her to the east, past the land of shadow to the very fringes of the sea. There, in the midst of the glittering sand, laid the corpse of a wildclaw, reeking with decay.

The whisper in her mind spoke of him. Visions flashed before her; ruin, destruction, a drake without mercy, longing only for power. This was it, everything in her life, all her study had led her to this. The voice in her head cried out in triumph as she cast her most powerful spell. In one ritual, Batu breathed anew. His soul ripped from the aether and locked in the pendant she wore. The drake stood, baleful eyes glowing with pure rage, for a moment she feared that he would lash out, and that would be the end of her. Instead the glow subsided, pulsing in time with the ruby, and he bowed his head once.

He called her Queen and led her to his Kingdom. In the heart of the Wyrmwound they found the remnants of his clan, being led away by a haggard Guardian. Old habits die hard and as they approached the clan abandoned she who would have led them out of this life, and flocked to their master, defeat already forgotten with promises of new glory. Some glanced back, and yes, Wer followed, alone and unable to resist as well.

Though Dreja adores the power she holds as Batu's mate, gorging on the fear she sees reflected in the eyes around her, she cannot forget the betrayal of her former clan. The wildclaw's restless soul rests in the pendent around her neck, bound beneath her watchful gaze for as long as she lives.

It never hurts to have a failsafe.

When she was young she wandered the great libraries any time her clan would let her. They became her second home, the reading cushions as much as a nest as the space between her parents ever was. During her time there she made friends with the young Pearlcatcher Amaryllis, an orphan from the plaguelands she was a servant in those halls, putting books back, and sweeping the floors. It was a friendship from the start as the two were the youngest dragons permitted in the halls.

Many dragons may have grown apart as the grew older, but not these two. Amary was the only dragon Dreja confided in as she learned more and more. The Pearlcatcher had spent her life in the library and knew where every old tome was and how to get in to every restricted area. She happily squirreled books away for her dearest friend. All was well and good until the day tragedy struck.

Dreja never learned what happened, only that her dearest friend had been struck down, in mute horror she was led to where her friend lay amongst the scrolls and tomes. She screamed and raged, but her friend would not move. That night she snuck to the crypts where Amary was lain to rest, and with the most forbidden tomes she brought her friend back to...something resembling life.

Amaryllis knows that what her friend did was considered wrong. And knows that her actions are what got the coatl banished from her clan. She also knows that without Dreja she would be back in that darkness, that cold void. She owes her existence to her Queen, and will defend her against any who would challenge her friend. This half-life is better than none at all.

The Enemy

If there is one dragon who could ruin everything it is Corrit. The Tundra came from lands far away, and should have been exalted years ago. Yet damn her, Wer took a liking to him, and for a while, it kept the Guardian occupied. Though Dreja protested, Batu refused to have him killed, showing some sort of...fondness for his previous mates apparent glimmer of happiness with this low-bred traveller. When Wer was struck down and raised as a revenant, Dreja thought at last the hated one would be done for.

How wrong she was.

At the first sign of danger to the Tundra, Wer struck with a speed and ferocity she never had in life. Though dead, she remains protective of her mate.

It will not end well.

Dreja knows that the Tundra is behind everything foiling her plans. The missing hatchlings, the skirmish attacks against their weakest borders. She knows, she KNOWS it is him. But so far her proof has not been enough to sway her king. Worse still, Batu has quietly proclaimed that should any harm come to Corrit, he will hold her responsible.

It is only a matter of time though...Corrit is only mortal after all. And mortals are so frail...
