the apple of irit's eye, but a disappointment in heylel's, yair grew up to be a very insecure dragon. he doesn't understand why his radiant crystal coat wasn't enough to curry his father's favor, but more than enough to endear his mother. heylel always ignored him for his plain colors. it's a coatl thing, as much in his blood as anything else, and yair will never understand why that stopped him from trying to be a good father. his childhood insecurity has carried into his adulthood, now a heavy stone that weighs him down in all waking moments. he is uncertain of most things. he doesn't believe in the sincerity and love of his mother's constant praise. he is wary of those who approach him with friendship. he does not value himself much. he's too fearful to even be bitter about his situation. parmina, a close companion since their childhood, told him that they would be mates one day. this unnerved young yair as much as it still unnerves adult yair. not that he doesn't like, or maybe even love, parmina--he just cannot fathom that she could feel the same way for him. parmina tries and help him to have a little more faith, but it's been a fruitless project thus far. the two are inseperable, though, and he does seem to be a bit happier when she's with him. he and baraq have become close friends. he sort of looks up to the older wildclaw as a father. there's something about the male's forthrightness that would usually terrify him, but is comforting instead. it's nice to know that someone as genuine as baraq has a positive opinion of him, and has no qualms in sharing that. he occasionally accompanies the courier on business outings. he has taken to carrying his own pouch and gathering things for the clan's alchemy lab, or for his mate and children. perhaps someday he'll feel comfortable enough in being a courier himself. |
