A happy chap, Eostre is the life of the party. Though he is assigned to be a hunter, he often spends time during the day visiting the Nests. He does not get along well with most of the adults, for they view his excessive jolliness as distracting and wasteful. However, he is very loved by newborns and hatchlings. Meroe, the Guardian of the Nests, doesn't particularly enjoy his presence, but allows him to stay since the hatchlings love him so. He puts on performances and talks of adventures across Sornieth, and his experiences of hunting. Sometimes when Meroe is otherwise occupied, he'll tell true tales of his origin. He makes sure he only tells the youngest of hatchlings, so that when they mature, their memories of his past are lost in a haze of children's memories.

He is quite skilled with his hands and is one of the most successful of fishers. Unfortunately, his lack of attendance means that he does not bring back the highest yield of seafood among the fishers.

Eostre pulled on a Spiral hatchling's wings tenderly and tickled its side with his tongue. The excitable dragon wriggled around in his grasp, and calmed down as the Coatl's icy eyes stared her down. She settled down and sat down next to the other hatchlings, wiggling their toes and looking up at the smiling adult dragon.

"I've got another story today!" Eostre announced, having looked around for Meroe, and feeling assured that she was too far to hear.

The newborns turned their ears towards him and tilted their heads like pendulums, listening for his words.

"Once, there was a family of Coatls - only two parents and their young child. They lived in a land of sharp edges of cutting ice. It rained rarely and snowed often. Sometimes hail would fall on their soft feathered hides. It was a dangerous place, but they liked the Southern Icefield. They knew nothing else. Their ancestors had been long exiled from The Ashfall Waste, and these Coatls had already grown used to the cold land. By day they would play in the water, and like mamertees, rush through the water, catching fish, grabbing at crabs and shellfish. At night they would indulge in the fruits of their fishing and quietly sigh with satisfied bellies, humming to each other and listening to the crackles of the embers in their fire."

"Very soon, the young Coatl grew to be larger than his parents, and he became more adventurous too. As his wings grew, so did his curiosities and his courage. He would climb pillars of ice, which to his parents would appear like mountains. He would fly further than his parents' wings could. They did not know how to control him, and with a mixture of pride and fear, they were torn between nourishing his adventurous nature, or crushing his selfish travels. Each day, his parents would grow more fatigued, but their son whose childish antics never ceased did not notice. They finally put to rest his naivety when a solemn day arrived."

"They were near the ends of their continent, where jagged crags and crevices lined the coast and travelled inland in wild zigzags for kilometres on end. As they flew further and further - frozen dragons, sprites, beasts seemed to be lodged in fear and anger within planes of shining blue ice. Even the young one began to feel apprehensive, glancing sideways every now and then to scope out the landscape. He looked over his shoulder to spot his parents shivering, desperately spitting fireballs to warm themselves. This did not bode well. The sparks danced in the air, bright oranges and reds in a land of white. Screeches in the distance sounded.
