i.   His days began in his breed's homeland, the depths beneath the sparkling waves. Such places were so deep in the sea, the only thing keeping the lair from folding in on itself were feats of architecture unknown to dragons above water, layers of magic and hidden enchantment, and perhaps a smidgen of luck. The Water flight's territory was always veiled and purposely hidden, cloaked from curious outsiders - perhaps for the purpose of jealously guarding hidden secrets. And thus our story begins. Cascade was never the mutineer, not even close. He wasn't even meant to be kept by the clan, slated for service to the Tidelord as soon as he became of age, assuming he was responsive to the mindset his parents gently pushed on him to make service to his deity his charge. All was going well until the eve of his adulthood, when some of the rowdier dragons started a battle to get the attention of the clan while another, craftier dragon slipped away and stole the whole lair's meager riches. In the chaos caused by one of the lair's pillar's collapsing in the brawl, Cascade slipped away into the blue. Though he intended to dive as deep as he could in order to find the Tidelord and serve him, light filtered in from above and called to his curiosity. What was this natural light, the rays shining and twisted through so many meters of water? And so Cascade strayed from his destiny, not for the first time, in search of adventure. But who was this dragon, this instigator? He will never tell, claiming not to know. The glint in his eye and the flash of his grin seem to say otherwise, but he won't give you a chance to ask before he moves on to the next chapter of his tale.

ii.   He surfaced at a knot of tangled brambles and flickers around every tree, stumbling through the forest blindly as unseen voices taunted and giggled at his misfortune. Eventually enough, after an eternity, he found himself in the dry, shattered plains of a broken promise. My curiosity has lead me astray. In such an alien land without water, he was sure he would perish. Despite the odds, he explored the plateaus and valleys of Dragonhome and eked out a simple existence eating whatever he could find. But disaster soon struck, as disaster is wont to do, and soon Cascade wandered into Longneck territory unawares, struck down, and left to die. Fortune often smiles on those lone wanderers, though, and Cascade woke up to the friendly smiles of another clan. This was one accustomed to the desolate conditions and well aware of the difficulties in surviving, yet they welcomed him with open wings to explain his travels and offer sustenance. It was there that he discovered a penchant for storytelling, weaving simple truths into something out of a weathered lorebook. His tales were met in kind by elders in the clan, who told him of many more stories, of the rise and fall of the deities of Sornieth and their very, very mortal struggles with one another. They told of the Beastclans, those who were once peaceful folk, yet mobilized to war by the fury of warring drakes. They told of the clan itself, its roots and its history, of the deeds of its oldest members down to its freshly-laid eggs. They told Cascade all this, and a primal urge in him was finally fulfilled. He always recounts with a satisfied smile that he discovered then his charge was the lore of the land, and he would do everything in his power to keep it alive in the minds and the hearts of Sornieth. With that in mind, Cascade bade Dragonhome - and truly, it was a second home to him now - farewell.

iii.   What a woefully underprepared dragon he was to embark on that journey alone. It was true enough that a Guardian could eat anything edible, and that toxins and microbes in tainted water were easily purified with what vestiges of magic still remained from his time as a hatchling. What inborn strength he had, however, did not do anything for the Shade-controlled masses of creatures that pursued a lone dragon relentlessly across thousands of kilometers as he fled for his life. Though he did his best to sleep as little as possible, eventually they did catch up to him and beat him to a bloody pulp. It was lucky that a passing fighting squad found him on their way back from a cave system, luckier still that they took him back with them to their clan and let him stay. Cascade awoke to the bubbling magma and clinking metals of the Ashfall Waste, and as before, the clan's members were eager to hear his tale and aspirations. And this dragon, rather weary and experienced by now, still lit up with joy when asked to tell his story and the stories of everyone he's met. Though he was offered an empty journal with the Water flight's emblem on it to record his happenings, he refused, preferring to tell his stories orally with his own flair and embellishments to the story each time it is told. He's quite a hit with the hatchlings. And so ends our tale - but it doesn't really end, does it? Cascade is alive and well, but this merely catches you up to the present, dear listener. Now watch as even more chapters unfold before your very eyes.
