Sometimes, when the communal magic of a clan is extremely potent, and the mages there are just curious enough, they will attempt to summon beings from the Void Beyond. Typically they aim for benevolent spirits, specifically helpful ones to aid them in their quests for deeper knowledge and skill. They are usually successful in this venture, when they know what they are doing, and yet... Sometimes, things can go wrong. The dragon known as Radsla was born of such an attempt, brought forth into this world by a young mage eager to prove he could pull a benevolent spirit from the Nether and bind it. He was horribly mistaken, and his subconscious fear pulled something else from the depths of the void instead. The demonic essence of a dragon damned long ago, eager to breach the surface, came ripping through instead. She devoured the mage, consuming his growing fear after realizing what had come through. This act was just enough to gain her a living body of flesh, and she formed herself a wicked heart. The demon started by plaguing the dreams of those she happened upon, causing chilling nightmares that resulted in many sleepless nights. Her physical body constrained her power somewhat, limited her abilities in a way, and it angered the demon. That anger manifested in even more crippling nightmares for those around her. Little did Radsla know she was born in the heart of a city of mages located on the island known as the Focal Point, and one dragon in particular she could not have foreseen, was a veritable threat. The Grand Enchanter found the demon when she learned of the slew of nightmares, and bound her. "You are strong, and one of a kind," the enchanter told her, "If you wish to remain in this world you will do as I say." A powerful demon is nothing if not cunning, and so she agreed to the terms, not eager to be sent back to the darkness she climbed from. |
She lingered in the Arcanium for a time, causing restless sleep but on a much smaller scale. She had to remain undetected by the Enchanter, but in her nature could not abstain entirely. Part of her knew that she was being watched, and her actions were allowed to persist because she was a valuable project, but she cared little. A second life in the world was more precious to her than her freedom, it seemed. She lived constantly pondering how to break free from the control, but a fear demon is by its very nature easily distracted and she had thus far not put much effort into it. That is, until Dross stumbled upon the enchanter while on a diplomatic visit to the city.
Radsla, cunning and brilliant as she is, convinced Dross that she would be a great asset to her people and alerted the curious ridgeback of her devious powers. Of course the Divine, seeing the incredible opportunity for what it was, could not pass up such an offer. After many days of heated negotiations and bribes the enchanter and Dross came to an agreement, and, after a transfer of the binding spell, Radsla left the city for the first time in her life with Dross to travel home.
It is now with Clan An Duin that Radsla has been able to thrive and expand her dark, inborn gifts. She uses the ever strengthening innate ability to bestow nightmares upon dragons to wreak mental havoc upon those that wander too close to clan territory, and a newer power to inflict vivid and horrific waking hallucinations upon any that dare cross her path. Part of the covenant detailed by Grand Divine Dross that allows her to remain with Clan An Duin however, dictates she must not use her powers on the fellow members of the clan, and so, being a creature with the need to consistently manifest its purpose, she must venture forth into the outside world periodically to vent her ever building powers.
