He was the last one to hatch, the runt, as they are called. His two brothers had no trouble breaking free of their shells, but this little guy seemed to have more trouble. His father was worried.

"Shouldn't we help him out? Just a little help?" he asked.

"No, he needs to have the strength on his own, otherwise he will expect everyone to always help him, and he will never help himself." That was the Guardian in her talking, for Asherah had not been born a Nocturne.

So they waited, and they sang songs of encouragement, and songs of strong warriors, and finally the little Nocturne made his way out of the shell. His brothers hopped over to see. He was blinking and pawing at the light, taking in the smells around him. He looked up at his parents and squawked, a nice, strong sound! His brothers jumped back! Then they nosed their way up to him again. He reached out and bit one of their tails, and his brother wailed!

"Moooom, he's biting my tail!"

"Haha! Well, maybe you shouldn't put your tail near his mouth, then! OWW!!" She looked down. He had just crawled up to her and had just chomped down on her tail! Then she and Llyr both started laughing. They didn't have to worry about him. He was going to grow up strong!
