Greetings, stranger. If you have come this far, you are brave indeed. My mate lets few past her workshops alive. Truly she does not require a bodyguard, nor even the assistance I sometimes lend her on her work, but she is mine, and mine alone, and for that reason if I hear a whisper of betrayal you will not see your death coming.

Chrysocal has mixed herself in some dangerous intrigues, taking that commission to kill the servant girl when she did. I don't trust the Prince's father, and the Prince himself has word of it, somehow. He plans to kill my mate before she can complete her work, but if she fails, we all suffer. Terithalie's life is a small price to pay; even our matriarch might agree, if we told her of the danger.

But no, in typical Shadow Assassin form, my stubborn mate won't speak of it to Alisaveri. We'll all be ancient stonework before my mate swallows her pride and asks for help. So we balance between the wrath of our matriarch and the vendetta of a distant king. Leave quickly, stranger, before you too are caught in our snares of pride and purchased death.
