   Born among the lands of Light, Claudus grew up a rather healthy dragon. From a young age, he admired the heroes in his storybooks and the way his father so gallantly strode into battle. Deciding the way of the warrior was the lifestyle for him, Claudus set forth upon his goal. Lofty and arrogant, he made his way through training easily, earning both praise from his admirers and scorn from his enemies. One day, his father told him it was unsafe to go battle on his own, and Claudus, wanting to prove himself and being too ignorant to think anything bad could really happen, set out on his own to do train by himself. It was a fool's decision that would result in the change of his life path completely. On his own, he was ambushed by a group of centaur. When fight or flight instincts kicked in, Claudus foolishly chose to fight. In the blink of an eye he was beaten, pinned down and left for dead. When he was finally found, his leg was mangled with no chances of healing right. Ashamed, broken, defeated. Claudus was all of these things and gave himself his self deprecating name as a result of it. He turned once more to the stories of heroes--not aiming to become one anymore, but to tell the stories to others. Many a hatchling and weary traveler sit by him, listening to his tales and to his songs--to his warnings against arrogance. Talent was discovered in loss, but it didn't change his shame and self-loathing ways. The mask he puts on of peaceful sullenness continues to be part of his daily routine, though it is much less seen around the lair now. Having encountered a Pearlcatcher named Yusra changed something in Claudus. There's more light within him than there had been in ages. His admiration and love for his mate reflects in many of his stories now--which the dance troupe of Inoue tease him for relentlessly. He denies it every time. |
