Archus, once a member of an order of knights in the Ashfall Wastes, was taught from birth to be honorable. His parents both stuck to a moral code and encouraged him to do the same, so when the opportunity arose to apply his skills as a swordsman, protecting the weak and standing up for justice, Archus rose to the occasion.

He did not realize that being a knight meant choosing honor over his own life.

Archus performed his required duties, of course. He practiced his swordplay and escorted nobility and guarded entrances and exits. He said "my lord" and "my lady" and observed courtesy. He fought valiantly in the ring as well as on the battlefield. He was a prime example of what a knight should be.

The foundations of his honor code were shaken to the ground when he and a few fellow knights were set upon by an enemy kingdom. Some fought to the death, some turned tail and fled, and still others were captured. Archus was among the captives, chained an tethered in a cell, and one by one he watched his fellow knights interrogated and tortured. Each one stuck to their creed, each one withheld information, and each one paid for it with their life.

When it came to be Archus' turn, he had no qualms about divulging his kingdom's secrets in exchange for release. The dishonorable knight told the inquisitor everything he knew and was set loose from his chains. He had soiled his honor and betrayed his people, he knew, so returning to his home was not an option. Pointing himself east toward the no-man's-land, Archus set out to find a different job, one with less moral grounding. Pillaging and raiding with Bane and the others was the perfect occupation, he came to find out.

Now, the soiled knight accompanies the raiders on their excursions, lending his skills with a sword to instill terror in their targets. Archus has a taste for the finer things in life, and will often claim the shiniest jewelry and the most intricate armor for himself after a raid.
