a Guardian named Meira started a clan at the end of her Search and gradually expanded the little group that she viewed as her children. people were happy, life was good, this isn't all that relevant

some years later, the clan's medic, Dove, went out for a walk and came across a half-dead Skydancer. despite his hostility towards her, she managed to patch him up and convince him to come to her clan for further treatment. he passed out shortly after arrival, but came to a day later in the recovery area.

he was responsive but very jumpy and refused to tell Dove his name, where his clan was, or anything else about his situation. he did well with treatment and was healing properly, but was extremely emotionally unstable and kept breaking down whenever he went to open up to her.

once she and Meira gained his trust, they learned that he was the General of a very violent extremist organization in The Scarred Wasteland known as Jahi. he was manipulated all throughout his life by the leader of the organization, Sonja, who claimed she saw a demon's strength within him and wanted to harness it to aid in achieving her goal.

Sonja is a teeny tiny bit delusional and believes she was sent by the Plaguebringer to restore her element to power through any means necessary, when in reality she's just a random Mirror with no morals and way too much time on her hands. while the public has acknowledged her clan's existence, no one knows who the leader is— and due to how she separates herself from them and instead takes on the persona of a normal dragon to avoid being targeted, no one suspects that it could be her.

dragons can join her clan at will, but all who attempt to escape are killed to prevent sensitive information (such as who the leader is) from being leaked. this is what was supposed to happen to the Skydancer, but by some stroke of luck, he managed to bear all the injuries he suffered until he made it to The Windswept Plateau, where he was about to die.

he planned on leaving Meira's clan as soon as he was physically able in order to keep them safe from being targeted just in case his old clan had been watching him, but instead of being shamed or looked down upon, he was met with an overwhelmingly kind response and assurance that neither of them saw him as a bad person. Meira vowed to protect him no matter what happened, and while she wouldn't stop him if he wanted to leave, the thought of him being alone after all he went through pained her beyond words.

that was around the time he really started to trust them, and it was relatively smooth sailing from there on out. he made a full physical recovery, officially joined Meira's clan, took up the name Dayo, and vastly improved his mental health (with Dove's help). he made a lot of friends, sees his new clan as his family, is falling in love, and even adopted a son— but if Sonja ever found out about them, all of their lives would be at stake.

even though he's safe now, Sonja and her clan are steadily growing in strength and size and will eventually spread into the surrounding territories, launching a major attack on The Viridian Labyrinth soon after. it's bound to be an issue sooner or later, but Dayo currently has no idea how he'll deal with it.

TL;DR: ex-cultist in a clan of happy-go-lucky dragons tries to ignore the fact that his cult is attempting and very slowly succeeding at world domination while praying to the Windsinger that they don't target his new family.
