first and only nest only had one surviving hatchling. the surviving hatchling was named Evanel. Tesla was shaken by the loss, she would never have another nest too afraid of what might happen, and became very protective of her hatchling. shortly after coming of age Evanel would disappear and was never heard from again. There was a great strain on Tesla and Enders relationship (which wasnt that great to begin with) after the loss of their hatchlings which resulted in their divorce, Ender then left the clan to serve under the Stormcatcher (would later return to the clan after several years). over the years the loss softened and got easier to live with. taking care of clan business, scavenging, etc. kept her busy. one day when she was scavenging she found an abandoned shadow egg, before she even made it back to the clan to drop it off at the nursery for Pythia it began to hatch. as the shell fell away she saw that the hatchling was a fae like herself and it had primal eyes. she watched the hatchling stumble around and clumsily try to wipe at the darkness dripping from its eyes for a moment before she felt a small tug at her heart and knew that she couldnt (and didnt want to ) leave the hatchling. she named him Leto and adopted him has her own son. she is still protective of her hatchling but has learned to let go when needed.
