ABOUTxxxxx❝Just leave me alone!❞
“You gave the Golem to her?!” Spade shrieked. He rattled his wings at half-cant, smaller than Bogart’s but more colorful, beating his powerful tail against the ground. “I’m your son, Bogart! I am your son and I know more about electramagen than any drake, drakka, dragon, dragonelle–” Bogart wheeled on him. “No, Meiville was our best, and look how well that turned out. You wear your machinework like it’s something to be proud of, drake.” “Meiville was weak.” Spade said, sulky as a hatchling at the childish barb. “He couldn’t even produce an heir good enough to wear his mask, and–” Bogart slammed into him, the two Imperials rearing to try and lock into each other. Spade tried to bring up a hind foot to rake his father’s belly, and the smaller, older gray flipped him with an yanked ear, armored wings folded into battle fans across his pulse-points. “Meiville was a flaming sociopath who’d screw a Boolean over if he thought it’d get him what he wanted. Those flesh-eating butterflies of his can go to the Weaver for all I care, and if you want to know why I gave the Golem to HeartBreaker, it’s because she has thirteen titles and you have seven.” “Only because Bradbury’s so slow!” “I won twenty-five titles with only one Eliminate in my team, Spade. Find another excuse.” Bogart’s tail began to snap back and forth, annoyed at Spade as he always was. How could those deep brown eyes look at him, at their lair, with no love or care in them? How did he go so wrong, taking the flakiness of his mother and the stubbornness of his father and doing…nothing? Was he jostled too much in the egg? Teased too much as a hatchling? “You…you just hate me ‘cause I’m not as big as your others! Marlowe's a baby and you like him better!” “Parzell is smaller than you and has done perfectly well. If this is about Storm’s Coming living in a different clan, it’s something for you two to settle. I’m not part of it.” “Fine!” Spade coiled back tighter, head low to guard his belly and wings spread wide to jab. “We’ll settle it. When my real father comes, he’ll send you, send you and all the rest back into your stupid holes! HE will recreate us. HE will aid us. HE will love us, and he’ll…he’ll clean out your old halls, and we will be part of the Great Machine, and…” “Spade.” Bogart said, feeling the violent pressure changes begin around the two Imperials as his son floundered for Lightning magic. “Spade, the Great Machine–” Spade reared, fiery blue energy arcing around him in circles and slashes as it flooded wildly through his body. “I won’t go back to Dragonhome! They promised me the Expanse, they promised, THEY! PROMISED! ME!” |

Earthshaker –
My father says I have to write to you. He says I’ll get why we have to go home if I talk to you. I want you to know I hate you, or I think I do. I never liked Dragonhome. Even when I was little. It was just so dry and dusty and lonely to me. But I ran across a couple Lightning dragons that fixed our few machines, and they gave me pet machinery to wear and to love. The evenness of machinery, the simple yes or no, the magnificence of the bright, bold future helped me realize what I wanted to be.
I want to serve Stormcatcher. Not to be exalted, just give him hatchlings, to win titles and stuff To create and invent and I dunno what else. Dragonhome may work for others, but it doesn’t work for me. Will you speak to the Stormcatcher for me? He doesn’t reply.

"Spade is the polar opposite of his father and Bogart never lets him forget it. Awkward in his actions and dull in conversation, his parents can't figure out where they went wrong. Spade would much rather do honest work than partake in his family's less than legal dealings, and in a clan of swindlers he's an outsider. He sometimes thinks of leaving the clan all together, but who else would put up with a bumbling, useless lug like him? So he stays put and tries to be as honest as he can in a den of liars."
