Biography

Fomalhaut
Clan Engineer, Decorator

Tinkering and fixing tools has always been Fomalhaut's passion. Despite his Arcane Flight origins, he's always messing with Lightning gadgets, be it to improve food production in the clan or simply create flashy decorations, helping in any way he can to compensate for his frail strength. Steadfast and easily distracted, Fomalhaut loves to help, but is usually the last person to discover the reasoning behind his lairmates' behaviors.

Ambrosia is his mate, and his most common company in his workshop. Though he takes many apprentices when they arrive into the clan looking for training, most find him too messy and unfocused, or even lacking ambition to create machines or industrialize the whole island.

Early Life
Raised by a Lightning clan, Fomalhaut was oblivious for most of his life as to why a family factory had so much interest in an Arcane hatchling. All the routine tests and weird food he was given seemed commonplace in the research-happy clan, and no one seemed angry at him when he failed to build new engines like all his friends and resorted instead to lining the window walls with solar-powered bulbs.
At the start, he assumed they loved a creative mind, as everyone else relied on dull boxes of metal or messy exposed wiring.

However, as some thinking years later would conclude, Fomal was kind of looking worse for wear. He stopped flying as well as his friends just a few years in, requiring clockwork "adjustments" that he had no say in, that would later repeat when he also stopped running as fast.
Stomachaches were frequent, and before he could tell why, his body was covered in glowing lines. And, weirdest of all, the more he got "sick", the more attention he got, getting rewarded for every test, having another serving of odd meat as soon as he was slightly peckish, getting medicine at the slightest complaint.

The breaking point, however, was when he sneaked in the clan leader/director's office to "borrow" - hey, he lived with mostly Ridgebacks - a few flower-shaped screws and discovered a research report on a table about him. He found writings on attempts to artificially change his element, and find a method to "poison" other dragons' magic and turn the tide on Dominance through the altered meat that he was being fed.
All the pampering in the world would not justify turning him into a guinea pig for war, and Fomal quickly submitted his quitting papers and left for greener - but not too green - pastures. Discovering the Garuda Caravan, he was taken to the Vortex happily, and to this day he puts his knowledge to the happiness of all in his new clan, no matter the element.

Clan Decoration
At Aether's request, he isn't allowed to turn anywhere but his workshop and personal room into a "claustrophobic metal-plated nightmare", but the opportunity to learn other Flights' styles enticed him just as much. Wind-leaning or neutral dragons recieve furniture bought by the caravan and restored by Fomalhaut, sometimes decorated with wind symbols and chimes, and pots with plenty of bamboo.

Other dragons that have been long enough in the clan but would rather feel at home recieve personal care - such as fake Chalcedony spires for Zenith, or shining statues of the Lightweaver for Shoal. His personal favorite is Rust, who allowed him to go crazy with the industrial inspiration; but the Wildclaw added a bit of variety and used crystals and cloth to create a pretend frozen laboratory room, which might at first look messy but is as clean as the Ridgeback's intentions in research.
