Winter
|| Herbalist || She/Hers ||
"Sticks and stones will break your bones, but luckily for you, I'm here to help!"

Winter, despite what you may think of her due to her name, is the sweetheart of the clan. She doesn’t allow herself to rest easy until she is ensured her patients are able to. Although at times her perseverance can be tiring, in the end, her patients are always thankful for her company throughout their rough times. She’s always there to listen and give advice-just be warned that if you ask her for stories she’ll never stop ranting about how wonderful her travels around Sorenieth were!

Her love of playing the ‘mom friend’ to every dragon she meets is one of the main reasons her clan often has ten extra mouths to feed then they have resources for. (Thankfully, her friend Sunsky is a genius when it comes to planning rations) Wanderers always feel welcome in her clan during their temporary stays because of her efforts; she knows exactly how to treat them because she was once a wanderer of Sornieth herself! The fast forming bonds between Winter and the wanderers she hosts often leads to the wanderers freely giving out a lot of information about the outside world, which the clan leader Crim sees as invaluable edge to their clan’s intel.

Along with Winter’s ability to get information out of dragons, she is also a practiced diplomat due to her experiences with a broad range of personalities showing up for healing. From battle scarred warriors to newborn hatchlings to the depressed and frigid to the cheerful and stupidly headstrong; she’s seen them all and treated them all. In fact, it is speculated that Winter’s way with words is the only reason Magnus, the arsenic wildcard of the clan, hasn’t burnt everyone to ashes yet.

It was a simpler time back when Winter was born, her birth clan’s rules were black and white; if you were no use to the clan then you were kicked out. Looking back, Winter didn’t blamed them for their harsh decisions. When you live in The Fortress of Ends deep within The Southern Icefield life isn’t easy to preserve. Most of the hatchlings in her birth clan would show signs of specialization around the sixth day after being hatched but Winter was a late bloomer. With no special talent peeping up, she was thrown to the outside world. Luckily, she wasn’t the only misfit wandering the The Southern Icefield.

She joined a little band of wander Ice Flight dragons who had been kicked out of their own clans for her first year of wandering, but she found their comfort to be constricted by their mentalities-why get to known each other when half of us will probably die during the next icestorm? That fridgidness between all the stragglers broke her heart and even though she didn’t get to know many of them before the frost storms claimed their lives, she mourned them. She and imperial named Frost were the only survivors of the original five wanderers. Together they fled to The Ashfall Waste where they found a clan kind enough to take them in for a few weeks. During their brief stay, Winter started to take up the study of medicine. The fire clan’s herbalist was kind enough to teach Winter what he knew but only knew the bare basics of herbology.

Onward Frost and Winter journeyed to The Windswept Plateau, a place that was Frost’s personal favorite of all their destination. Together were taught the basics of combat but more important they both discovered their own talents. Winter was able to heal a clanmate’s wound inflicted by a Searing Jackalope’s blazing slash with the knowledge of herbology she brought from her experience with the Fire Flight clan. Meanwhile, Frost was finding himself among the Reedcleft Ascent, which was where all the Wind Flight musicians hung out. As time passed on, Frost and Winter said their farewells and kept drifting around Sornieth, trying to find a place to call home.

The Scarred Wasteland was their next destination. Although it was a disturbing change from their former clan up in the Reedcleft Ascent, the two accepted that stragglers can’t be picky about where they wander off to. They spent the most time here mainly due to Winter’s fascination of how Plague Flight dragons live their lives with little worries about disease. Despite the countryside of The Scarred Wasteland, Winter discovered that a lot of talented herbalists and medics reside there because it’s such a good place to practice treating all sorts of ailments.

While being hosted by the Plague Flight clan Winter befriended the clan founder, Crim, and their deputy, Elyndor. Similarly to Winter, Elyndor was drawn to the Plague Flight lifestyle because of research, only his was on how the ecosystems of The Scarred Wasteland worked. Crim saw Winter more of valuable tool than a friend at first. She was sweet and could get anyone to talk to her which meant she’d be the perfect intel gatherer, and on top of that she had a broad knowledge base of herbology and medicine. Fun enough, the longer Winter stayed in Crim’s clan, the less Crim thought of her as a mere tool. Crim’s war like disposition softened and her mind opened up. Based on Elyndor’s research and Winter’s tales of the clans outside of the Plague Flight, the two concluded that it was best that Crim and her clan move to a different region because the stress of constant disease and fight for survival was proven to chip away at a dragon’s strength. Thus, Crim and her clan migrated to the Sunbeam Ruins to relieve themselves of their previous strained lifestyle.

Winter had never felt happier in the first few months of changing the clan’s location to the Sunbeam Ruins; it was never cold, she was surrounded by dragons who genuinely cared about each other, and she could virtually treat anything thrown at her. Unfortunately, Frost didn’t feel the same comfort his mate did. Winter was heartbroken when he declared that settling down wasn’t the lifestyle for him-not while his wings still worked and there were new dragons to meet.

Although she felt sad that her lover and oldest friend was moving on, Winter knew that it was what was best for him because he felt at home when he was in the sky of Sornieth, just like how she felt at home when she was among her friends in Crim’s clan.

Poems

She flies on wings of ice, a frigid figure in the night sky.
But under cold stonewash scales, lies a heart of gold.
Though at first glance, she is as distant as the stars
Her inner beauty puts the sun to shame.
Though Winter is her name, her personality is that of Spring.
Warm, gentle, and sweet.

--

A kiss of frost
A reminder of things lost
Cold, remote and far away

Yet it's not the truth
She's not cold though she's blue
Her heart's a warm summer's day

Her exterior is cold as cold can be
But her heart is warm and full of glee
An oxymoron you might say
And she'll smile and reply 'that's okay'.
