Biography

Tanulth
cTkH7BW.png
“Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad.”
Roles:

Healer in Training

Lead Scout

Bio:
Born to a single parent, with colors considered taboo, guaranteed that Tanulth was not going to lead a normal life. As such, he has never truly rested, working hard to carve a niche for himself.
Personality:
A shy, kind, and caring creature, despite all that has been inflicted on his self. He is often nervous and cares deeply about how others see him, though he never shows these traits. He is non-violent and strives for peace, but whether or not that is possible is not his choice.

History: ~~In Progress~~

spacerBorn into a clan where colorful plumage and scales are the norm, Tanulth's midnight coloration stuck out like a sore thumb. His father, after seeing his colors, abandoned Tanulth and his mother, forcing them to fend for themselves. The clan's leader at the time proclaimed him to be an omen for bad luck, and to add insult to injury, all the dragons in the clan refused to help him or his mother. This led to him learning to care for himself at a young age, since now his mother would be gone for most of the day, foraging and doing odd tasks around the clan to keep their bellies full.

spacerThis, of course, was just a dream. No matter how hard she tried, or how quickly she worked, Tanulth's mother could never provide enough for the two of them. Every night, mother and son would huddle together in their solitary corner, cold and hungry. Every night, his mother would stay strong for her son, stroking him and humming lullabies softly. Every night, Tanulth would go to sleep with a smile on his muzzle.

spacerUnbeknownst to Tanulth, the moment he was asleep, his mother would pray. She would pray for their survival. She would pray for a turn in their lives. She would pray, she would do anything, but above all, she prayed for her child's safety.

spacerOne fateful night, she made her decision. In the dead of the night, when not a single dragon stirred, she and Tanulth left their cruel clan. With their meager belongings slung across her breast in a worn knapsack, and a sleeping hatchling on her back, she took off. She had no clue as to where they would land, but it would be anywhere but here.

spacerThe duo traveled south, into the Sunbeam Ruins. She flew through the night, and at daybreak, alighted in the Mirrorlight Promenade. This was their first true home, and even though life was harsh, it was much better than the treatment they had received. Being clanless had it perks, it seemed. Tanulth had grown substantially while the two lived here, and though he was not the most muscular, Tanulth had changed from an awkward hatchling into a quick and nimble adolescent.

spacerMuch of Tanulth's childhood was spent in light territory, and the region's perks had rubbed off onto him. His fascination for new ideas and his insatiable thirst for knowledge is full proof of such a change. However, the largest impact the land made on him was undeniably, flight.

spacerThe young dragonet stood shakily, perched on a tall stone structure. His wings were half spread, and his expression was one of determination. He had failed innumerable times over the last couple days, trying repeatedly to stay in the air, and always failing.

spacerHis eyebrows furrowed, and he launched himself into the air. His large wings were spread widely, catching the wind and giving the dragonet a sense of flight.

spacerThen again, gliding was very different from flying.

spacerHis mother circled around him, her silky voice carrying along words of encouragement. Tanulth flapped his wings as the ground loomed in front of him.

spacerOnce. Twice. Thrice.

spacerHis wings beat methodically, his body yearning for the heavens, and something clicked. Just like that, he was suddenly soaring over the hills of the Sunbeam Ruins. He laughed joyously, circling back towards his starting point. His mother waited for him with widespread wings, and that, without doubt, was the happiest day of his life.

spacerFrom that point on, Tanulth's life was, in other words, perfect. He and his mother decided to venture west into the Sea of A Thousand Currents to find clans willing to trade materials with them.

spacerOf course, this was anything but easy. The territories they passed through were anything but safe, and beastclans harassed them constantly. Still, they fended themselves the best they could, making steady progress towards the sea border.

spacerOne night, as the two traveled, an ambush was set on the unsuspecting dragons. The dark night sky exploded into a multitude of magical attacks, and a squadron of harpies swooped down from above.

spacerBlinded, Tanulth fought against the opposition the best he could, but having no prior training, he was slowly but surely being beaten into submission. He heard his mother call out "Go! Fly away!", and so he did.

spacerThose were the last words Tanulth ever heard from her.

spacerThe young dragonet stood huddled over the broken body of his mother, weeping silently. The harpies had been merciless, for lacerations crisscrossed the dragoness's body.

spacer"W-why......why did it have to be you..." The Skydancer hiccuped as he straddled his mother's cold length. "Why....did you have to leave m-me?"

spacerIn that position he would stay for a day and a night. On the second day, he finally left her side. He stood up, all his joints sore and aching, and started to dig. Hours later, the dragonet collapsed in front of the mound, with both sadness and exhaustion. A crude headstone had been erected, Here lies Ramsani, it said, having been carved into the slab with care.

spacerHe was completely and utterly lost, just a shell of the cheerful hatchling he once was. Weakly, he had pushed on, but he was at the end of his strength. He stumbled along, following the course of the river towards the Sea.

spacerIt was peaceful, he decided. The sand was warm against his hide, and the crash of the surf soothed his frayed nerves. His eyes lay closed, having finally given out and collapsed along the sandy beaches of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. He sighed slowly, feeling his frail body starting to give in as well, but he didn't care anymore. After all, what did he have left to live for?

spacerTanulth woke up feeling groggy and disoriented. He lifted his head off the ground, only to feel something slip off of his neck. He turned his head to find a blanket covering most of his body, and was quite confused.

spacerHe looked around the room that he was in, wondering what brought him here. Perhaps he was in the Afterflight? He dismissed the thought almost immediately.

spacerThe room was a cave structure, with smooth stone walls and large torches providing illumination. He was laying on a well made cot, soft and warm, but was rather large for the Skydancer. He blinked, studying the outer fringes of the place as his muddled brain struggled to form coherent thoughts.

spacerWithout warning, a shadow appeared on the fabric curtains separating the room from the outside world, and an Imperial dragoness shuffled through quietly, unaware that the visitor was awake.

spacerShe turned around and her eyes widened, before moving towards him. Tanulth sat there, frightened at what the dragoness would do, but getting hugged was not what he thought would happen.

spacerEnveloped in her forelegs and wings, Tanulth felt himself loosen up. The Imperial made him feel safe, whether due to her status as another Nature dragon, or just because of the warm emotions rolling off of her.

spacerHe remained in her gentle grasp as she murmured to herself. She smelled nice, he decided, and surrendered into her embrace. He was still weak, and soon nodded off. He didn't notice the Imperial easing him back onto the cot and replacing the blanket, all the while stroking him lovingly.
Placeholder

Placeholder spacerThe two bonded quickly, once Aeira had gotten past the various barriers Tanulth placed around himself. Slowly, as they became closer, all of those walls came down, one by one.

spacerWith the last of the walls gone, the Skydancer that once lived returned, with a sparkle in his eye and a smile on his muzzle.

spacerThe road to his recovery wasn't easy, as he was told. He had been out cold for days, as Aeira had tried to coax the dying flame within him back to life. From there, it took weeks for him to open up, and once he did, all of it came out. From his father's abandonment, to his childhood bullies, to his first flight, to his mother's death. And Aeira had stayed with him though those painful times when he would wake up, only to be reminded of his uselessness.

spacerWith his adoptive mother, however, everything gradually became better. It seemed that the color that had once been leeched out of his world was now returned, and he could truly experience life once more.

spacerHe started to learn the skills of becoming a healer, working by Aeira's side, pouring over books in the library, and watching the procedures of the healers and surgeons of the clan. He swore to never allow what happened to his mother happen to any other dragon, he swore to remain in control and not be helpless as he had been then.

spacerSince then, Tanulth has slowly but surely taken over as the main healer of the clan. Aeira had to allocate more of her time to help keep the clan's borders safe, and as such, had less time to tend to those that were ill. The role fell upon the Skydancer's shoulders, and he has taken to it graciously, quite unlike the bullied hatchling he was years past.
