She was just a hatchling when the old shaman found her, watching phantom sparks spring from her clawtips and giggling as they lightly kissed her nose. She doesn't remember much from before that, just the nest of coiled wires and the ancient dragon who carried her away, nestled in the crook of his arm, to the lair in the Sunbeam Ruins. He trained her as his apprentice, teaching her the ways of magic and healing, then vanishing. He left her with this clan, the youngest shaman they had ever had.

The old shaman had seen power in Selene. After he left her on the Sundial Terrace, Selene's fragile control over her abilities began to fail. The magic would encompass her entirely, bursting from her at inopportune times and driving her new clan away. They could never be sure if greeting her might lead to a clap of thunder and singed scales, or offending her might lead to black rain clouds blotting out the daytime sun. Selene was not afraid of her own power, but she was loathe to hurt her clanmates. She spent much of her time alone.

One night a dark mist rolled into the clan's territory, thick and clinging to every surface, blocking out the light. Selene huddled in her nest, watching the sparks race up and down her scales, a pale aqua light surrounding her in the gloom. In the midst of the fog, another dragon approached her. Zeus, the clan leader, curled next to her nest, wondering if maybe her power could burn away the mist, bring back the light. As his violet claw touched her arm, the area around her cleared, the mist evaporating. His presence and support gave her the confidence and control over her magic. Soon the lair was clear, the sunlight filtering back down onto the wide stone terrace.

Zeus is her support and safety. No one need fear an errant bolt of lightning with him by her side, and Selene feels accepted and yes, loved.
