The rhythm of the Viridian Labyrinth is a feral and passionate thing. When living among the primal creatures that live by the law of "survival of the fittest" every moment can be a struggle for dominance. For all the ravaging virulence of life there is no place more stunningly beautiful than the rich greenery of the upper canopy as the golden rays of sunlight filter down and dance in glimmering patterns upon a nearly endless sea of boundless life. Zipping through the darkened pathways of the high boughs, Jaxyn glided seamlessly through the many loops and hidden trails known only to those who were born, raised, and thrived in the dense heart of the Gladekeeper's territory. Known to change due to the growth of vines and lichen or the collapse of older trees, no route was ever the same for long and this day was no different. Carefully handling her bundle of gathered food, Jak tucked her wings as she did a barrel roll through a patch of spindly vines, her fangs biting through them and her wings cutting them down to clear her way. In a sudden maneuver that most within the Wilds would never dare, her long and powerful body angled upward and shot toward the light like a dark arrow. As she burst free of the foliage and left a confetti of green leaves in her wake, she basked in the warmth of the sun directly upon her scales. Her green eyes slowly closed and she drew her wings in close to her body. For a moment, she hung suspended between momentum and gravity, the various bone beads and feathers that adorned her rising up as if they would float away from her. Then gravity with its greedy nature snatched her from the embrace of the sky and she began to plummet back toward the carpet of rich greens. A few moments after most would open their wings Jaxyn simply glided into the opening she had created and continued on her way, her confident flight carrying her as though she were in the midst of a wildly beautiful and impassioned dance. When she reached home - little more than a giant nest of woven branches and vines cradled within the bend of a massive tree - she settled down with her bundle only after checking about for intruders. Satisfied, she opened her satchel of cured hide and poked about within before selecting a fish to start her meal. As she ate, she looked out over her domain. Carved by her own claws within the smooth bark of the tree were countless tribal doodles. One section spoke of her ancestry, going back to the Firsts. She had a prestigious history of noble blood and some called her the "Wild Princess" in reverence for her untamed spirit. There were many dragons more vicious than she, and even more that were more timid or mild, but she was revered in her domain for finding a balance between ferocious and merciful, between savagery and civilized. Other markings on the walls told of her many adventures outside of the Labyrinth when she had traveled to other territories and spent time within Clans. Some of the memories were fond, others not so much, and as sure as the marks would stay within the tree for a long time, Jaxyn also carried scars upon her scales. As Jaxyn consumed the variety of goodies she had gathered throughout the day, she watched the light dim and fade, leaving her world in a cloak of midnight green. The vibrant birds and insects of the day gave way to the more darkly colored predators of the night and the day songs gave way to the night calls and lullabies. Beneath the canopy, there was no starlight to gaze upon, but she was not startled in the slightest as her companion - her faithful Floracat - rubbed up against her side and then jumped onto her back to curl up. He had been with her since she could remember, and had often gone with her wherever she traveled. As he stared back at her with his beautiful, pale gold eyes, she felt the familiar yearning within her. It was time to travel to another land, another Clan, and see a little bit more of the world. |
