______ ”Sorry!” Dawncatcher yells as he dashes down the winding staircase, leaving the exasperated scholar behind to pick up his scattered scrolls. Leaping off the railing of the staircase the young dragon glides down to the first floor and takes off running into the main hallway. Ignoring the curious stares directed his way, Dawncatcher screeches to a halt in the middle of the room and rakes his gaze over the crumbling pillars and cracked ivory floors bathed in golden light. Eyes lighting up as he spots his mother lounging in a deteriorating alcove, the young dragon sprints over to her with barely concealed excitement reflected through his sapphire eyes.
“Guess what mom! I’ve finally been given permission to leave the Sunbeam Ruins!” Dawncatcher blurts out as he happily skitters around. “That’s great news, I’m so proud of you!” Amaterasu exclaims as she gazes lovingly at her son. “Since the day you were born I always knew you would grow up to long for the world beyond these halls. Although I had hoped that you would stay here with me and train as a scholar, I have no right to keep you from the path you chose.” The old dragon crooned. Affectionately ruffling her sons mane, she lets out a light chortle as he blushes in embarrassment. “Just promise that you’ll visit every once in a while, alright?”
“Of course I’ll come visit you!” Dawncatcher chirps as he nuzzles his mothers neck with his nose. With one final heartfelt goodbye Dawncatcher turns around and makes his way towards the entrance of the ruins, vanishing from sight as he descends the worn ivory staircase leading to the world below.

A merry little Pearlcatcher with a playful and adventurous attitude, he is also known for possessing a very naive outlook on life as a consequence of being sheltered within the confines of the Mirrorlight Promenade his entire childhood.
As a hatchling Dawncatcher was quite the problem child, possessing no interest in following in the footsteps of his parents as a scholar of the Sunbeam Ruins, a job of the highest honor in which a dragon devotes their entire life to unraveling the mysteries of the Lightweaver’s domain, forever bound to the golden world until their death. Torn between his desire to go out into the real word and experience firsthand what it has to offer, yet fearful of the thought of being considered a disappointment in the eyes of his parents if he doesn’t follow the path they want for him, Dawncatcher gradually falls in a downward spiral, beginning to skip classes in the lecture hall and isolating himself from the other dragons of his clan, preferring to be left alone in his misery. Seeing the increasingly worrying state of her son, Amaterasu confronts him to figure out the cause of his sorrow. Upon learning of his moral dilemma, Amaterasu gently drapes her tail over his back and tells him that no matter what path he chooses, to never think that she’ll ever stop loving him. Imploring her son to wait until he finishes this seasons lectures before he sets off on his journey, Dawncatcher agrees to the proposal and quickly begins to revert back to his old fun-loving self, feeling as if a great weight was lifted off his shoulders.

~ ~ ~ ~

It was during an early summer morning when Dawncatcher took his first steps past the border separating the Sunbeam Ruins from the Sea of a Thousand Currents, simply standing there in stunned silence at the sight of an endless expanse of crashing blue waves reaching out towards the horizon. Shaking himself out of his stupor, Dawncatcher reaffirms his plans of traveling to the Windswept Plateau, the most welcoming and friendly of all the elemental flights, and the perfect place for a young dragon to start his new life! Nodding his head, the young dragon takes off into the sky, the edges of his wings carving delicate ripples into the endless ocean below.
It was during his time crossing through the Tidelord’s territory that Dawncatcher learned an important lesson about surviving in the wild, and that is the fact that the weather at sea can oftentimes get very dangerous and even potentially fatal. It was during a late afternoon flying across the ocean when Dawncatcher, limbs already strained with the fatigue of an entire days flight, caught the scent of rain in the clouds up ahead. Unbeknownst to him at the time, these clouds would not bring about the gentle showers common in his old homeland, but would instead release a devastating storm of howling winds and torrential rainfall. His exhaustion combined with his inexperience in flying through such fierce weather creates a feeling of dread in the panicking dragon as he tries fruitlessly to keep the raging winds from dragging him into the roiling black waters down below, eyes widening in hysteria as he feels the cold touch of the water slowly enveloping him. Struggling frantically to pull himself out of the water, his efforts are in vain as the current steadily drags him further under. As water fills his lungs, Dawncatcher finds he no longer has the strength to struggle, his vision slowly turning to black. Tired eyes slowly flickering shut, Dawncatcher resigns himself to his watery grave, submitting to the encroaching darkness of the abyss below. Hollow eyes suddenly snapping open at the sudden feeling of cold claws firmly grasping around his chest, the last thing Dawncatcher sees is the shining sapphire eyes of an Imperial dragon gazing at him before succumbing to the darkness.
