They/Them
"This time I might just disappear!"
Lost eggs in the Tangled Woods don't stand much chance at surviving. A nocturne egg out of its nest is a rare sight, and most such eggs die before they can hatch. In this case, however, it was not to be. No one knows for sure what Xane was doing that xe stumbled across the egg, but for all xir tales, it wasn't scavenging. All that's known is xe stumbled home with the egg, and immediately took it to a nest, determined to care for it. Nests cannot be cared for by one dragon alone, however. They require too much energy to care for; though two parents caring for an egg won't notice any ill effects, a singular dragon can become weakened and sickly from trying to keep a nest, and Xane was never very large or strong. Xe couldn't keep both xirself and the egg alive, nor could xe bear to lose the egg. It was then that Marth stepped in. Just as Xane couldn't bear to lose the egg, he could not bear to see Xane suffer in order to save it, and so he took to the nest, too, hoping and praying that all would be well. Both Xane and egg made it through, and the grey and white of the new hatchling, along with the initial improbability of their survival, landed them the name "Ghost". The name fit them all too well; they were silent and watchful, despite their playful and cuddly nature, and they seemed to have a habit of disappearing. In fact, it was noticed that sometimes they seemed to disappear into thin air; there one second and gone the next, only to reappear moments later in a much different place from where they'd been. It was soon discovered that it was, in fact, Ghost themself that was causing this. Though they hadn't inherited their chameleon parent's ability to shapeshift into other dragons, they seemed to have inherited some power at least, and could turn invisible at will. Though a bit hard to track down at times, Ghost is extremely loving, and can often be found around their adoptive parents, especially Xane, who they seem to have a very close bond with. |
