"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."

______ Those who venture into the water off the Maristela Islands may find, in their depths, a Skydancer with wings that shimmer like the surface of the seas. This is Shoal, denizen of the ocean, protector of the many coral reefs that encircle the Islands, and the leader of the Islands during their summer months.

______ Although many Skydancers are born to leap and sing among the currents of the winds, Shoal finds herself just as much at home in the currents of the ocean. The sensitivity of her antenna and forehead gem are heightened when in water, allowing her to perceive even minute changes in the environment or attitudes of those around her from a great distance. There is a rumor that the shimmering membrane of her wings, which so closely resembles the depths she explores, have actually transformed into gill-like structures due to exposure to Water magic, but Shoal has neither confirmed nor denied this rumor to date. Still, she is able to stay underwater for unnatural periods of time, to the point where seashells have begun to grow on her hide. This, of course, only lends further strength to her clan's suspicions regarding her ability to breathe water just as easily as air.

______ Shoal herself is gentle-natured and kind. As the Clan leader during the summer months, she works to celebrate nature's bounty with her fellow dragons, and is a fair arbitrator in the case of any disputes. Life on the Maristela Islands is easy and warm during the summer, with most dragons enjoying fishing, crafting, hunting, and planting in abundance under Shoal's watch. Shoal personally leads a small cohort of dragons in swimming and diving lessons; the most talented dragons join her in her underwater adventures, where they work together to collect precious pearls and hunt fish in the deepest depths of the seas. Shoal elects to cover herself in long strings of the finest quality pearls she finds on these adventures, and also decorates her wings in seapetal flowers daily from a small grove she tends herself.

______ Gentle as Shoal may be, she is a fierce protector of the oceans in which she dwells. Shoal knows that all life comes from the ocean, and that without the seas, there would be no life on the Maristela Islands. As such, she serves to defend the oceans and maintain and cultivate the coral reefs; she prevents overfishing of any one species or area in the ocean around the island, and monitors and cleans up litter on the beaches which may negatively affect wildlife. Any dragons who may arrive in the Islands and attempt to poach in their seas may find themselves facing Shoal's wrath in the form of potent lightning magic. The element of her magic alone is often enough to take most attackers off guard - most poachers or would-be attackers expect water magic from a dragon such as Shoal - but the precision with which she can strike, even from or within the water, is enough to stop most enemy dragons from approaching further.

______ Last but certainly not least is Shoal's familiar, Bell. A small Aer Phantom who tends to trail alongside or burrow in the soft feathery turquoise aspect of Shoal's wings, Bell seems to have the ability to teleport to anywhere on the island at once. Being a phantom, Bell has no difficulty in water, either, and can brave the depths as well as Shoal. In this sense, Bell serves as a true extension of Shoal, acting as a spirit of protection over the Maristela Islands.
