Fa-Rin
Orphan of the Shifting Expanse

Mate: Rei-Sun
Family: Xu-Bai
Occupation: Warrior

Artwork: Album

Fa-Rin was found as a lone hatchling, and to this day no one is entirely sure how it was she came to be in the Tangled Wood or what may have happened to her previous clan. She was taken in, beneath Demytra's wing, and raised with warmth and kindness. The time she had spent alone surviving by her own wits showed, her sharp fangs often finding purchase in those who approached her without caution.

A desire to protect the clan was born of her gratitude towards those who had saved her, and she took to the path of a Warrior as soon as she was able. Her beauty almost distracted one from her fierceness, for she was an unusual kind of beautiful not often seen within the Wood. It irked her, when this came into question, and so she often turned up her noes at compliments for they all appeared empty to her.

There was one dragon though who garnered a different reaction. Rei-Sun tossed compliments her way from his smirking lips and brought butterflies into her stomach and a swallow to her rib cage, beating its wings against her heart. It was never her beauty he spoke of, but her intelligence, her prowess in battle, how strong she grew day by day. She had watched him from afar as a hatchling, but as she grew her confidence grew with her, and soon she was pursuing him. This was all but amusing for them, for you see, he was also pursuing her.

They fell in love and were soon mated, and time came and went as days passed and seasons changed. She and her mate became some of the clan's strongest Warriors, their teamwork impeccable and their strength nearly unsurpassed. Eventually, their bore a nest together, from which there was a single egg.

Fa-Rin watched over their child day and night, Rei-Sun beside her, and they spent their days trading names and ideas of what their little one might one day be like. The serenity was interrupted though, for one day there came Nadir, the prince of their sister clan. It was his claim that their egg housed the soul of his intended mate, and that it was his desire to be with them.

Fa-Rin had been raised on tales of imprinting dragons and star crossed lovers. Rei-Sun had not. She knew of his past, of the things he had suffered, too young to comprehend them. He had not believed in such fairytales for a long, long while, long enough that it took him long into their mateship to accept that they too had imprinted. He did not take well to the implication their child already belonged to another.

Perhaps she might had eased his worries some then, or at least acted as a buffer-- But then, she was a mother. She had her own concerns, whether she found herself fond of Nadir or not, and so she allowed her mate his fury. If Nadir could not at least weather this trial, then what right did he have to their child?

But then, weather the trial he did, and slowly he won Rei-Sun over. From the egg came Xu-Bai, their remarkable little son, and Fa-Rin had never been happier. Xu-Bai was a beautiful boy with a sprawling imagination and an eerie understanding of the world around him. He loved his parents, and Nadir, and his clan, and never wanted for love or companionship. The childhood she and her mate had lacked was spread out before their child, and nothing could have made her happier.

Xu-Bai grew into a spirited young dragon with his whole life ahead of him, brimming with wit and intellect and still just as fond of late nights spent reading as when he had been young. If Fa-Rin had one wish it was that her child might be able to remain so carefree forever; yet such a thing was not meant to be.

Hardship came in the form of the Revolt, brought on by the clan's very own Second to Command. Sepheraph tried to destroy all he had helped to build, bringing with him a swath of enemies the likes of which the clan had never had to face before. The Beastclans alongside enemy dragons, and beside them disjointed fragments of the unholy Shade. That alone was enough to sicken her, but to watch her home fall to ruin was worse.

Fa-Rin fought beside her mate with every ounce of power she had. Her sheer ferocity dwarfed their opponents, many of whom seemed to realize all too late the forces they had tried to come to bear against. She was as enraged as she was saddened by it all, to see the corpses of her fellows on the dirt they had all walked so peacefully, and her home burning around her.

And what of her son? Where was Xu-Bai? If not for Rei-Sun tetherting her in place, Fa-Rin feared she might have lost herself entirely in those moments. Their allies came as the fighting dragged on, and she found herself fighting beside dragons from far off lands whose loyalty to Nocte was as strong as her own. So much happened, and so fast, that by the end of it it seemed as though years had passed in just a day.

She cried when she found her mate and son both alive, if just as weathered by the siege as she. In the months following the clan transformed from battleground back to the home she knew, and things began to turn back to ho they once were. And yet, different. Her son had lost his carelessness and adopted a fiery passion in its wake, crossing leaps and bounds where he'd only taken steps before. She was proud, though she ached for how innocent he once had been as any mother might.
