Biography

benalene has LadyLoki and Loki while I have two of their dragons

I and my mate, Ohaiyo, were two of the brightest students of the Arcanist. We could understand the runes, read the stars, interpret the signs. Dragons would come to us, "I want to have a big nest! Should I breed now, or wait?" "Will our hunting trip be bountiful?" "What region should we forage in today?" The clan looked up to us, needed us. Or so we told ourselves. What did the clan do before us, we wondered. They only had that drab Heiying, we would sneer to each other. She couldn't do real magic.

And then She came.

We felt Her before anyone saw Her. A dragon of enormous power and magic. It shook Ohaiyo and me to our core. We felt like dumb hatchlings under the condescending gaze of a professor that is about to tell you what a failure you are. In the blink of an eye, She changed Her form. It had taken days for Ohaiyo and me to summon the immense strength and magic needed to change the form of fellow clan members. And She did it in a heartbeat.

And the worst part was that She ignored us. I mean, of course She was pretty much ignoring everybody, but to ignore us! Not even a courteous nod in our direction, an acknowledgement of fellow magic users. We would show Her.

Ohaiyo and I prepared ourselves for several days. We knew the battle party was planning an outing, so when they came to us to seek good omens, we told them, "Oh the omens are good today! Especially if you drink this drink, you will be twice as strong! You will not lose a single battle!" There wasn't anything too harmful in the drink. Just a little something to make him feel a teansy bit woozy. He might not be able to dodge a few attacks. He would be hurt, but he was strong. We didn't expect them to run into a gang of Psywurms...

All day long, we sat waiting, anxiously, for our chance! Our chance to show Her and the clan how strong we were! When Zhandou came dragging him into the cave, our hearts sank. No! It was all wrong! He wasn't supposed to be hurt this bad! We rushed to his side. Heiying was already there. She looked up sharply at us. How did she know?? We ran through all the incantations we knew, but nothing helped. It wasn't supposed to happen like this! And just when I thought my heart couldn't sink any farther, I felt Her. My limbs moved of their own accord. I jumped back, away from the warrior. There was a haze before my eyes, but I knew She was there. She was working Her magic on him. She was saving him.

For the next several days, Heiying avoided us. Maybe she is not the dotard we thought she was. Of course she told Mheras. Those two are best friends. But Mheras was as friendly as ever to us.

Right before She came back, Heiying confronted us. "I know Mheras won't kick you out, but I will. You two think you are all that, being star pupils with your little tricks. You have such potential, and you could realize it if you would just open your eyes and see how little you actually knew. But you pull another stunt like that, and I promise you, you will never do magic again." And at that, Heiying let down some of the barriers that she had been using to hide her strength from us. And that is when we knew we had so much to learn...

Oyasumi groaned. Yesterday had been brutal. He had been shoved into the Coliseum, and in front of psywurms. His trainers, a fae and and an imperial had been incredibly swift and efficient. Scary, and he really had felt stupid. He had ducked and fainted, and emerged with two new skills. Why was he banished for a week to this terrible clan in Light? He wanted to go back to the Wind Clans. A twisting dust devil, a tornado, anything! He missed them more than he realized.

What would today bring?

My name is Aiton. I will be your trainer today. I'm going to have to call you Dude, because the slashes come fast, and I need a one syllable name. The ridgeback looked at the tundra. I see you are trained in mana bolt and in healing. Both are important in the Coliseum. Come.

The ridgeback collected his battle partner, Beryl, and they proceeded to the Woodland Path.

In the first battle, Oyasumi was eager to check out his mana bolt. But as he did the necessary meditation, he noticed Aiton putting a ward around him. Dude, you have an important skill. We will need you. Be safe.

Oyasumi watched Beryl rally Aiton and herself. Aiton warded himself and Beryl. All before a single blow! Once they were ready, shash!

Oyasumi tried his mana bolt. Sometimes it was effective, sometimes it wasn't. He felt frustrated.

Dude, help Beryl! She's low on health! Oyasumi looked over at the imperial. She did look like she was bleeding. He had enough breath for a healing spell, but he wanted the glory of the kill. He shook his ruff, No, and quickly cast his spell.

As Beryl began to recover, Oyasumi discovered a sense of pride. She could hit harder than he could, but he was the one who could heal.

As the battles continued, Oyasumi discovered a rhythm of teamwork. Aiton warded and slashed, Beryl rallied and slashed, and both cheered when he healed. Occasionally, Aiton would call, Dude, bolt him, and Oyasumi would get another mana bolt in where it hurt.

As the training ended, both Aiton and Beryl slapped him on the back, and told him he was a great partner. Oyasumi did feel good. Maybe there was something to this stay in the brain4puzzles lair besides babysitting Typhoon. He suddenly could not wait to get back to Ohaiyo.
