Biography

CORALIE

She always walks alone in the wilderness.

She steps on rocky crags and over gurgling brooks, breathing in the smell of wildflowers and crushed pine needles. She fills her eyes and ears instead of her mouth: three blue robin eggs nestled in a tree, a mouse rustling through dry leaves, a young moth peeling away from its chrysalis.

Some days she returns carrying the bodies of beasts in her jaws: stags with antlers long and twisted from years of growth, wolves with icy white fangs and golden eyes, strange creatures with pelts in brilliant hues and glowing with magic. Other times she comes laden with baskets of silvery fish and small yet sweet berries. All furs she takes, she cleans and prepares for sale at the market; all flesh and foods she feeds to her clanmates; all bones made into delicate figurines and tools. Her eyes, green like the wilderness around her, judge the worth of everything: nothing should be wasted, nothing taken without purpose. The white wolf pelt she wears on her back is a reminder of that lesson she learned long ago.

The daughter of a hedge-witch, she was raised alone in a remote mountain valley. Her mother allowed her to roam freely, but offered minimal guidance. Coralie learned to be remarkably independent for her age, and as she grew older she grew accustomed to only relying on herself. She has little patience for dragons whom she perceives as unnecessarily depending on others, often coming off as insensitive and miserly; as such, she has few allies. In many of her nightmares she is left injured or sick, or otherwise unable to care for herself.

Since meeting her mate, Marina, she is slowly learning the value of others’ company, but she remains solitary and uptight to most of the clan. Despite them both being disinclined to socializing, she is close friends with Crowcrown; she admires his quietness, and they share a deep respect for nature.
