Alistair is the calm voice of reason. Much like most earth dragons, he is fairly unshakeable with a mild, studious demeanor. He dedicates a lot of time and effort to studying birds, which are his passion. Single-minded to the point of obliviousness, he may disappear for long periods, learning all he can about a new bird species he has discovered.

Alistair sometimes finds it difficult to connect with other dragons. This is partly because his sense of smell is uncharacteristically horrid for a tundra. His memories are instead built on pictures and thoughts, something that he finds very difficult to explain. He believes in honesty and truth above all else, though he somewhat lacks in tact.

Being alone does not bother him at all. It was odd that three arcane hatchlings would be the thing to draw out his far more affectionate side, which was normally kept buried. He had never had hatchlings of his own, yet he took to them easily. When they decided to find their home, he went with them to serve as a guardian. He now acts as a sort of honorary uncle, having developed a close, sibling-like relationship with their mother Alice.
